I'm brand new to Ghost 2003 and after a successful clone on my brothers computer (bigger hard drive) I thought it would make a good backup for my new Win2K machine. What I want to do sounds simple but fails. This machine is tied to a router/switcher along with a FreeBSD server and another smp FreeBSD/Win98 box. My only cd burner is at the server. I have created spanned image files of the http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/error-1972-current-disk-not-first-set-please-help boot partition to another partition on the Win2K box and ftp'd those to the server. Used mkisofs to create a iso file of each image file and burned to both a cdr and a cdrw. Problem is, back at the 2000 box, Ghost says the files were not created by Ghost. Does any kind soul know a solution to this or am I p...... against the tide? In what words did you ask Ghost to use image files? If you write them down for us, we might be able to help you. Boot with DOS floppy and CDROM support. Can you see your files on CDROM by typing DIR D: (if D: is your CDROM drive)? Then, use GHOST.EXE and restore your drive using files stored on D: drive and not CDROM. But, why don't you just image and restore directly from your server network share? It is a waste of time using second partition, ftp-ing, burning, reading from multiple CDs etc... And btw, DVDs are much more economical than CD-R(W) disks nowadays. "Tom Jackson"

Or, if you're comfortable with DOS boot disks, you can create a custom boot disk with the drivers and Ghost. One other possible explanation I can think of is you are using optical media on a system different from where the image was originally burned from directly by Ghost--and the optical drive you are now using is not compatible with the *built-in* ability of Ghost to access compatible optical drives. No question is stupid...but, possibly the answers are !&& IP Logged Pedro Guest Back to top Re: This disk was not created by Symantec Ghost Reply #2 - Feb 15th, 2006 at 5:55am Ghost V8. Discussion in 'Software for Windows' started by Sophia, Feb 3, 2003. Sophia Senior member Joined: Apr 26, 2001 Messages: 680 Likes Received: 0 I'm trying to use Ghost 2003 to span a backup image across several cds. I have compression set to "high" and I have tried both cd-r and (24x) cd-rw disks and get the same error message. When each cd is full, or the last one is finished, it ejects the cd. Immediately, after it ejects the last cd as "finished" it flashes a black screen, and then comes back giving me the error "1972 - No cd/dvd in drive" and the options are "retry" (which won't work for any cd, blank, cd #1 of the set, the program cd, or anything that I can think of) or "cancel" at which point the operation fails. I have no idea what cd it has in mind should be in there and it doesn't say what it is looking for. Anybody know what to do? #1 Sophia, Feb 3, 2003 Bglad Golden Member Joined: Oct 29, 1999 Messages: 1,571 Likes Received: 0 Okay, its been awhile since I've tried to backup to CD. Personally I think hard drives are so cheap now that its a waste of time not to just buy an extra drive and backup to it, preferably a drive in a removable bay... but I digress. I think what it is asking for is the first CD. I think it has to go back to the first cd at the end to write how many volumes the image is to finalize. Try that and let us know if it works. #2 Bglad, Feb 3, 2003 TheDiggler Senior member Joined: Dec 23, 2002 Messages: 695 Likes Received: 0 I use a different method for storing Ghost Images to CD: 1) Create a separate FAT32 DISK PARTITION for storing temporary Ghost Image Files and assign the parition a DRIVE LETTER (I also assign that parition a volume label of "Recovery"). 2) Configure Ghost to span images accross multiple image files w/ a maximum individual image file size of 700MB. 3) Let Ghost image your PARTITION(s) or DRIVE(s) (except the "Recovery" parition) such that the image files are written to the "Recovery" drive (that's why you assigned the Recovery parition a DRIVE LETTER). If you only have 1 HD, you won't be able to image the DRIVE as you can't IMAGE FROM and IMAGE TO the same HD at the
