Join them; it only takes a minute: Sign up Error accessing the system registry in VB 6 IDE up vote 2 down vote favorite 1 In Visual Basic 6, when I attempt to access Project > References, it throws an error: Error accessing system registry I'm logged in as the local computer administrator running Windows XP Professional and I can execute regedt32.exe and access all the registry keys just fine. VB6 was installed as the local administrator. Any idea why this happens? I have have already visited that posting before. I'm running crystal reports 8.5 and it supposed to already have fixed that issue but apparently I still have the issue with 8.5 installed. Right click on the REGTLIB.EXE file. Select Properties from the pop-up menu. Then select the Compatiblity tab. On the Compatiblity tab, check/select the Run this program as Administrator checkbox. Click OK to save your changes. It might take take care of the problem for you. It worked for me. I recentley bought a laptop with vista. I tried installing visual studio 6 on my laptop but i got a message saying that this program is not compatibable with this version of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lR5xTUZgME4 windows. I cancelled the installation and tried looking for a version for vista. I found Visual Studio Enterprise Edition 2008. But it is differnet to vb6 the coding is very different and i error accessing dont want to have to learn a new way of coding so i went back and installed vb6 anyway i clicked continue when i got the message saying its not compatible and it installed... the problem is when i open vb i get this message "automation error error accessing the ole registry" and i cant use any components or OCX's not even the ones that come with vb error accessing the like internet control... is there away around this?
