So, he created me a new profile. However, now I've lost my PuTTY and WinSCP configurations because they are stored in the registry. I figured out how to load a hive from my old profile and exported the WinSCP and PuTTY branches. However, I can't merge them to the registry; I get an "Error accessing the registry" message. I have administrator privileges and can access the registry via regedit. Why can't I merge the exports that came from the same machine? Thanks! EDIT Here's a snippet of the putty.reg file that I exported from the registry after converting it to ASCII: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_USERS\SimonTatham\Software\SimonTatham] [HKEY_USERS\SimonTatham\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY] [HKEY_USERS\SimonTatham\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY\Jumplist] "Recent sessions"=hex(7):63,00,73,00,70,00,32,00,74,00,68,00,31,00,6e,00,6f,00,\ 20,00,28,00,70,00,72,00,6f,00,64,00,29,00,00,00,74,00,68,00,32,00,2e,00,6e,\ 00,6f,00,2e,00,63,00,67,00,2e,00,6e,00,6d,00,73,00,2e,00,6d,00,6c,00,62,00,\ 2e,00,69,00,6e,00,65,00,74,00,20,00,28,00,70,00,72,00,6f,00,64,00,29,00,00,\ 00,74,00,68,00,32,00,2e,00,6e,00,6f,00,2e,00,63,00,67,00,2e,00,6c,00,61,00,\ 62,00,2e,00,6e,00,6d,00,73,00,2e,00,6d,00,6c,00,62,00,2e,00,69,00,6e,00,65,\ 00,74,00,20,00,28,00,6c,00,61,00,62,00,29,00,00,00,73,00,63,00,6d,00,32,00,\ 2e,00,6e,00,6f,00,2e,00,63,00,67,00,2e,00,6e,00,6d,00,73,00,2e,00,6d,00,6c,\ 00,62,00,2e,00,69,00,6e,00,65,0

I saved the .reg files so that I could restore those files in the event that I had issues after having used the program. (disclaimer: I'm no computer wiz, but I have grown up w/ computers since the internet was around error accessing the so I'm not a total dummy either). I've read through the help section on Piriform and it seems pretty straight forward. Locate the .reg file that were saved and double click to restore them. But when I do I get an error message X Registry Editor: Cannot import C:\Users\Nancy\Documents\CCleaners Registry Backups\cc_2013038_170248.reg: Error accessing the registry.I ran the registry cleaner, then I did the cleaner, and to be thorough I reran the registry cleaner. So I have two .reg files saved. (maybe I shouldn't have done it twice?) anyway, I'm running windows 7, not sure what other info I should include. I would really love to get some advice / guidance from a more knowledgeable user if possible. Thanks in advance Edited by Nergal, 30 March 2013 - 07:18 PM. Do you have a Restore Point you made beforehand? Back to top #3 OFFLINE crossing my fingers crossing my fingers Newbie Members 7 posts Gender:Female

A few weeks ago I tried installing new ATI video drivers and got the message that I needed to be logged on as Administrator when I tried opening the ATI Control Centre. In the Registry Editor I cannot add or change any entries, getting the message "Cannot import E:\Blah\Blah\Blah.reg: Error accessing the registry." This user account has administrator rights. I restarted my computer in safemode, logged on as Administrator and still get the same error message when trying to add entries to the registry. I have run PC-cillin, Spy Sweeper, and HijackThis; PC-cillin and Spy Sweeper haven't picked anything up.
