Join Now Hi Guys, Having some issues importing a reg file into the registry on a Windows Server 2008R2 box. To give some background i took https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/892192 a full backup of the registry before beginning to make changes in line with CIS hardening requirements. Then i needed to test a web application on the server after each change to see if this broke the app at all. We have run into some issues and need to revert the changes, however as the title suggests i am presented with this error. I have so far tried importing the file as admin by opening regedit.exe as administrator, copying the file https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1158392-error-accessing-the-registry-windows-server-2008-r2 to a trusted location for example %systemroot%/Windows/System32 and importing from here, and also changing the ownership of the file to that of the administrator account we use on the server. So far no luck at all. The server is virtual so there may be a possibility of reverting to a earlier snapshot however i am not too sure how long our service provider keep snap shots for so this may not be possible and i would rather find a manual fix if there is one due to time constraints. Anyone have any ideas or solutions to this? Any changes regarding registry hardening in your list? Any errors in the event logs? 0 Ghost Chili OP Best Answer ErikN Sep 11, 2015 at 1:07 UTC The name of the file in the screen shot suggests you are trying to overwrite/restore the full registry at once. I doubt that is possible with a powered on machine because so much of it is in use. If you want to

Advertisement Madlogic Thread Starter Joined: Jan 3, 2006 Messages: 5 I'm using Windows XP Pro. A few weeks ago I tried installing new ATI video drivers and got the message that I needed to be logged on as Administrator when I tried opening the ATI Control Centre. In the Registry Editor I cannot add or change any entries, getting the message "Cannot import E:\Blah\Blah\Blah.reg: Error accessing the registry." This user account has administrator rights. I restarted my computer in safemode, logged on as Administrator and still get the same error message when trying to add entries to the registry. I have run PC-cillin, Spy Sweeper, and HijackThis; PC-cillin and Spy Sweeper haven't picked anything up. Below is my HijackThis log (I don't know whats normal and what's not): Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 10:03:37 PM, on 03/01/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\TGTSoft\StyleXP\StyleXPService.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\taskswitch.exe C:\Program Files\Saitek\Software\Profiler.exe C:\Program Files\Saitek\Software\SaiSmart.exe C:\Program Files\Saitek\Software\SaiMfd.exe C:\Program Files\Chameleon Clock\ChamClock.exe C:\Program Files\Wallpaper Calendar\WallCal3.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\CDANTSRV.EXE C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\SMAgent.exe C:\Program Files\Spy Sweeper\WRSSSDK.exe C:\PROGRA~1\PC-CIL~1\PCCGUIDE.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\PC-CIL~1\PcCtlCom.exe C:\PROGRA~1\PC-CIL~1\Tmntsrv.exe C:\PROGRA~1\PC-CIL~1\tmproxy.exe C:\Program Files\totalcmd\TOTALCMD.EXE C:\DOCUME~1\MadLogic\LOCALS~1\Temp\_tc\HIJACK~1.EXE R
