In the Command Prompt window you will need to type the following: fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\ and press ENTER Note: You will need to replace the C:\ with the drive letter that Windows 7 is installed on. Posted on 2009-07-24 Windows Vista 1 Verified Solution 4 Comments 1,622 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-07 I am attempting to repair a Windows Vista PC and it will not run Windows Update. It does not matter if all updates are selected or just 1, Windows Update will start to download the updates and then gives an error code of 80071a91. The error code is always the same. according to Microsoft's website this is due to bad .blf and .regtrans-ms files and they suggest doing the following from command prompt run as admin: cd/d%SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine attrib -s -h * del *.blf del *.regtrans-ms followed by a reboot to rebuild these files I have tried this and am still getting the same error code. The updates that are trying to install are: KB973346, KB969B97, KB961371, KB961501, KB96B537, KB970238, KB967632, and KB905866. Any advice would be appreciated. 0 Question by:wcoil Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google Best Solution bywcoil I was actually able to find a fix at this site: http://blog.stevex.net/index.php/2007/05/21/80071a91/ The solutions is under HelpingyouOut Says: September 12th, 2007 at 7:22 pm Thanks for all Go to Solution 4 Comments LVL 7 Overall: Level 7 Windows Vista 1 Message Expert Comment by:Notexa2009-07-24 First, run services.msc, the stop the Windows Update service.
