"Error Contacting Host" Home » AnyConnect » AnyConnect - "Error Contacting Host" KB ID 0000555 Dtd 12/01/12 Problem I was creating some "Bookmarks" on a client's AnyConnect web portal last week. They were simply CIFS links to shared folders on his servers so he https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/10636266/error-contacting-host-through-vpn could access them remotely from his Android tablet PC's. However every time I clicked a link I got this error; Solution A bit of searching later and I found that in the release notes for version 8.0(4) this http://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000555 was a known problem that had been fixed (Bug CSCsl94183). A quick check on the ASA in question, revealed it was still on 8.0(3). Note: From command line issue a "show version" command to check the version level. I upgraded to version 8.2(2) to be on the safe side (This firewall was a 5505 Security Plus, and did not have enough memory to go beyond version 8.2 see here for details). Post upgrade everything worked as it should. those shares to be used via the client less SSL VPN portal. I have also setup SSO which works properly for web-bookmarks and RDP stuff http://networking.bigresource.com/Cisco-VPN-SSO-on-CIFS-shares-for-clientless-WebVPN-ASA5500-aQ159UkYk.html but not for the CIFS shares. When I try to access those shares I'll http://daniyar-tech.blogspot.com/2007/11/cisco-asa-webvpn-cifs-error-contacting.html always get a "authentication failed" error message. Afterwards a new log in-box is displayed. I have been able to log in to those shares by using the user-ID prefixed with the domain name [URL]. Log in fails when using only the user-ID or for example DOMAIN user-ID. I have also tried with a error contacting share on a different Server (windows2008 R2) which works without any problems.
