Error Detected An Inconsistency In The Nx Server Configuration
2008, 09:00 PMHi! I have a new server that i have no physical access to, only ssh enabled (commandline access). Now i need to connect to it with remote desktop. I have used NoMachine NX client for windows before (on another server), but i'm having a struggle connecting to this new server. I think everything has been installed on the server correctly, but when i type: sudo /usr/NX/bin/nxserver --start I get this message: NX> 595 ERROR: Detected an inconsistency in the NX server configuration. NX> 595 ERROR: The exception id is: 079FF53D. To get detailed information about NX> 595 ERROR: the error, search for the string: 079FF53D in the system log file NX> 595 ERROR: (usually '/var/log/messages'). Any help would be gratefully appreciated. I'm still a n00b when it comes to ubuntu (and unix/linux in general) so bear with me please. :) MonickerMay 14th, 2008, 09:03 PMWhat shows when you search for 079FF53D in /var/log/messages? vorgusaMay 14th, 2008, 09:18 PMWhat GUI do you use, gnome, KDE, or XFCE? halloizMay 14th, 2008, 09:34 PMI guess gnome is what is installed, but does that even matter as i'm not able to see anything but the terminal? How do i search in that log? I said i was a n00b, and it was not a lie:razz: NamplaMay 15th, 2008, 03:34 AMif you installed Ubuntu server by default you dont have any GUI. In other words you cant use NX until you install either gnome, kde, or another GUI supported by Nomachine. You probably should stick to the terminal if you can for a server. I have a similar set up and mapped the ports thru my router and set up one of my terminals at the same location as my server. This terminal runs the desktop version of Ubuntu and therefore can use NX. I do this if i need a GUI and then ssh over to the server and am able to run gui applications over ssh on the lan. THis for me works better than trying to run an X program over the web. Good luck halloizMay 15th, 2008, 11:04 AMI think i installed gnome. And since i'm in a hurry getting this server up and i don't know much about ubuntu yet, i think i'm gonna need a GUI. If anyone is interested in setting up the NX server on my server and creating a user for me (so i can
mentioned in an earlier post, I failed to install NXserver on Foresight using the method outlined in the nomachine documentationSo, I had a look at the more detailed instructions here. In particular, the prerequisites (1.2) are important. These libraries are mentioned as being required for the nxnode install:- libXpm.so.4- libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.2.3)- libnsl.so.1(GLIBC_2.0)I managed to find all of them in various rpms in PBone. All three were included in a relatively https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-794366.html large bunch of files. I downloaded each package as an rpm in openSUSE 11, then I used aliensudo alien -t file.rpmto convert each file to a .tgz file.I used cl1p.net to send each over to Foresight Linux. To install, I just moved each of them to the root directory (/) and untarred (tar -zxvf file.tgz) and http://paulscomputernotes.blogspot.com/2008/08/further-attempts-to-install-nxserver-in.html that was it.Now, I was ready for the install. So, here's what I did:1. cd /usr2. sudo rm -rf NX #to remove all old installations3. Install the nxclientcd /usrsudo tar zxvf nxclient-3.2.0-14.i386.tar.gz4.Install nxnodesudo tar zxvf nxnode-3.2.0-11.i386.tar.gzsudo /usr/NX/scripts/setup/nxnode --install debianFrom what I remember this installed fine (although I have a vague recollection of some minor error or warning)5. Install the nxserversudo tar zxvf nxserver-3.2.0-13.i386.tar.gzsudo /usr/NX/scripts/setup/nxserver --install debian(note that this last command taken from section 2.8 of the detailed server installation instructions has an error and won't work. The "--install" must be replaced by "--install". So the correct command line is sudo /usr/NX/scripts/setup/nxserver --install debianThis seemed to "more or less" install, but gave quite a few warnings, the nature of which I again forget.Note, however, that I plan to start all over again with this tomorrow and these notes are just meant to be a guide to me for tomorrows attempt.6. First thing I saw was the /usr/NX/etc had no server.cfg file so
