I thought it was supposed to be at like 1.1 or something? Or is this just the speed step/turbo taking over? 0 |Ryan Butterworth| | i5 2500K@4GHz | 8GB RAM | EVGA GTX 970 | GB P67A-UD4-B3 | 500GB Samsung 840 Evo | 120GB Mushkin | 1TB Samsung Spinpoint | Seasonic X750W | -Beta with Milviz and Realair- Back to top Help AVSIM continue to serve you! Please donate today! #2 Gary A Gary A Member Members 592 posts Posted 02 April 2011 - 05:36 PM Try the current version 3.10 if it still does it you have a problem. Don't worry about the voltage it is not reading it correctly. http://www.ocbase.co...hp?DownloadAlso you can pass OCCT and fail Prime95, OCCT is good for building heat to test cooling but I woul

Page 1 of 2 1 2 Next > Tullphan Diamond Member Joined: Jul 27, 2001 Messages: 3,480 Likes Received: 0 I recently purchased an i5 2500k setup & am wondering if I may possibly have a faulty chip. While running 100 passes of IBT, I noticed core 3 was about 5-6c hotter than the other cores, but the test passed without errors This morning I http://www.avsim.com/topic/331713-occt-error-detected-on-core-3/ raised the multiplier up another notch & started OCCT. After about 10 minutes the program stops & I get the message "error detected on core 3". Do I have a defective chip? Thanks. #1 Tullphan, Jun 29, 2011 zebrax2 Senior member Joined: Nov 18, 2007 Messages: 874 Likes Received: 0 Probably means your overclock is unstable. #2 zebrax2, Jun 29, 2011 Idontcare Elite Member Joined: Oct 10, 1999 Messages: 21,130 Likes Received: 0 Tullphan said: ↑ Do I https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/core-3-error-detected.2175014/ have a defective chip?Click to expand... Is it stable at the stock clockspeeds that it was sold to operate? If the answer is yes, then the answer to your question is no. Overclocking is YMMV (your mileage may vary)...not being able to overclock does not mean your chip is defective, it means you don't get something for nothing unlike some of your fellow OC'ers who are getting something for nothing when they OC their chips. #3 Idontcare, Jun 29, 2011 sm625 Diamond Member Joined: May 6, 2011 Messages: 7,767 Likes Received: 23 I would RMA that sucker.... assuming the socket looks good. #4 sm625, Jun 29, 2011 mnewsham Lifer Joined: Oct 2, 2010 Messages: 13,096 Likes Received: 17 I never understood the thought process where if the chip doesn't OC to other's posted levels then it must be defective, if it runs at stock settings with no problems then you have a perfectly functioning unit. #5 mnewsham, Jun 29, 2011 Tullphan Diamond Member Joined: Jul 27, 2001 Messages: 3,480 Likes Received: 0 Core 3 ran at higher temps than the other cores at stock speed and voltage. That's what struck me odd. I realize overclocking it's a ymmv & have known that since the days of the Celeron 300 @ 450mhz. #6 Tullphan, Jun 29, 2011 Rvenger Elite Member
