"A serious error has occurred. Contact technical support for assistance." on a red screen in about 20+ different languages. I remember having this happen back in 2010, but I can't remember what I did to fix it. I've read that it could be that I have a faulty hard drive, and

I think that may be it. Last year I had my Borderlands game data get corrupt for no apparent reason, and then it happened again a few months ago with my Lost Planet 2 game data.Is there something I could do? Please spell it out for me like I'm a child, because I have a hard time fixing a clogged toilet, I would think the PS3 to be more complex than that.lI|PSN|Il Muramusa723Men are equal; it is not birth but virtue that makes the difference. - VoltaireUser Info: antoinejonesantoinejones 4 years ago#2well first try this... make sure the PS3 is in standby mode (the power light is red)hold down the power button and when it comes on keep holding it until it turns off and if red again... then let go... after that press and hold it again youll hear a beep... keep holding it then youll hear a second beep.. after that let go... then plug your controller in with usb and press PS button... you should see options.. first choose the "restore file system" option once thats finished your ps3 will restart.... once it done see what happens.. if it gets the red screen again (or even ff it boots up normally) press and hold the power button until its red again.. then hold down the power button and when it

USB. So I do, but when I put it it came up with the message "A serious error has occurred. Contact technical support for assistance." So I go hunting round the net and it seems you've got to http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/927750-/63050163 create a folder called PS3 then create a folder called update inside that AND THEN put the firmware update in there. I do all of this and try it again but I still get the same message. I then read that the usb drive has to be in the fat32 format, so I formated it and did the folder thing again and put the firmware on there but still no luck. I can't seem to find anyone http://www.eurogamer.net/forum/thread/174494 else who has had this problem. Can anyone think of something I might be missing or doing wrong cause I've been looking at all the videos on youtube and written walk throughs online and I've done EVERYTHING that they've said. the error code is 8002F22F ps the hard drive is a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 640GB most people seem to have used the 500gb one but this only came out in November and I wanted that extra space. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Scorpio-640GB-Internal/dp/B002QAXZZY/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265574384&sr=8-13 Thank you andijames 7 Feb 2010 21:02:39 2,858 posts Seen 6 hours ago Registered 9 years ago Have you made sure the folders are labelled correctly? PS3 - A Serious Error Has Occurred sushiboy Registered User January 2010 edited error has January 2010 in Games and Technology I got the "A Serious Error Has Occurred" message a few weeks ago. I restored the file system, and all was well. Now a few days ago it started doing it again and none of the recovery options do anything to help. "Restore File System" tells me that the hard drive is corrupted and needs to fix it, but it keeps coming up with the red error has occurred screen. I restored the file system several times and every time it told me the hd is corrupted. I bought a new hd for it and went through the process of installing it. Ran the 3.15 update from an external drive like it wanted me to, then oh crap its the serious error red screen again. Restore File System tells me that the hd is corrupted even though it is brand new. What gives? How can I tell if this thing is under warranty? (I think it is over 6 months old) What is an average Sony charges for PS3 repairs?
