When I click on the link I get the error "Exxel Web Access An error has occurred. Please contact your system administrator if the problem persists." The Excel Calculation Services are not enabled on any of our servers as we dont use it, I also went in and verified that the Document Library which contains this data has http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/37785/excel-web-access-not-disabled the Browser-enabled Documents option was set to Open in client Application. Also I logged in as the SharePoint Admin we have, and I could click on the file and it allowed me to save it just fine. But when I am viewing the site as a vistor with no authentication I am getting the error. I checked my permissions and they all seem to be inline. But it is still trying to use the excel service any ideas on what I can do to fix this? 2007 document-library excel share|improve this question edited Jun 6 '12 at 12:07 asked Jun 5 '12 at 17:37 atrljoe 15629 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote Well if you've set the Document Library to "Open as Webpage" then you're trying to use Excel Calculation Services. Either start "Excel Calculation Services" on one of the servers and add the document library as a trusted source Or set the Document library to "Open in client application" share|improve this answer answered Jun 5 '12 at 19:52 Per Jakobsen 29k12049 Haha long day, I completely wrote that out wrong. thought: "At least the servers are running, so it could be worse on a Monday morning." And it got http://www.sprocks.io/2012/07/sharepoint-2010-error-has-occurred.html worse. The Excel WebApps weren't working. With the best error message ever, thanks to Microsoft for clearing up the problem that might occured: An error has occurred. Please try again. Actually. It's not okay. It's one of those error message that could mean anything. Maybe a planet in outer space just exploded and forced error has Excel WebApps to stop working. So, my first idea was: Maybe the service is missing some rights or something. So I used a little PowerShell script, but that didn't help. I'm posting it so it may help you. $web = Get-SPWebApplication http://applicationurl/ $web.GrantAccessToProcessIdentity("DomainName\ServiceAccount") So I tried to search for this error, but nothing helped. I error has occurred checked the App Settings, check if any error occurred. In the end one simple thing did the trick: Restarting the service fixed the problem. But why did this help? Well, we deleted files from the TEMP directory... and there are all those Excel WebApp Temp files, which are needed to display. These files will get initialized when you restart the service. Problem solved. *Update 7/16/12* In my case I restarted the Excel Web Services. Thanks to Taras Kun for his tip: "I got it fixed simply by restarting Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application service In Central Administration > Application Management > Services on Server."
