Join them; it only takes a minute: Sign up checking identity information: current identity value 'null'. Why setting current identity value is not working for me in SQL Server 2008 R2? up vote 0 down vote favorite I am working with SQL Server 2008 R2. I have a table seq_audit which has an identity column. This is the definition of the table: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[seq_audit] ( [id] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [value] [bit] NULL, PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ([id] ASC) WITH sql dbcc (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON, FILLFACTOR = 90) ON [PRIMARY] ) ON [PRIMARY] The table is empty and never has had any rows in it before. To check its current identity value, I ran this command: DBCC CHECKIDENT (seq_audit, NORESEED) GO And this is the result I get: Checking identity information: current identity value 'NULL', current column value 'NULL'. DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator. I want to set its current identity value to 15953711. So I ran this command: DBCC CHECKIDENT (seq_audit, RESEED, 15953711) GO And this is the result I get: Checking identity information: current identity value 'NULL', current column value '15953711'. DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator. I thought it worked so I again check its current identity by running this command: DBCC CHECKIDENT (seq_audit, NORESEED) GO But I was not expected the result I get: Checking identity information: current identity value 'NULL', current column value 'NULL'. DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator. So somehow the setti

If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system adminis Hi All, I am playing with DBCC command to check the contsrainst on a perticular table (DBCC CHECKCONSTRAINTS ('myTable') WITH ALL_CONSTRAINTS), it always gives the following result: DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator. nothing more than that, anyone can help please? If DBCC CHECKCONSTRAINTS doesn't return a record set, then you can assume that everything is fine. Last edited by roac; 03-26-07 at 07:05. And when I try to truncate this table it gives error.... I want to check which one constrainst are enabled.... this is not enough I want to explore DBCC command in detail. It always given that information only Reply With Quote 03-26-07,08:05 #4 tomh53 View Profile View Forum Posts 9th inning DBA Join Date Jan 2004 Location In a large office with bad lighting Posts 1,040 DBCC CHECKCONSTRAINTS does nor enumerate the constraints, it merely verifes them. If you want to see which constraints are on a table, just script it out from either Enterprise Mangler (use 3rd tab to put check next to indexes and constraints) or Object Browser. -- This is all just a Figment of my Imagination -- Reply With Quote Quick Navigation Microsoft SQL Server Top Site Areas Settings Private Messages Subscriptions Who's Online Search Forums Forum
