To create a custom page there are some great instructions here. This involves creating a new IIS virtual directory for hosting the page, as well as creating a console application which is used to update SharePoint with the location of the new error page. To display more detail for your error page (error.aspx) then according to Stefan , you will need to modify your web.config file. I am not a huge fan of doing this in SharePoint, however if this is the only way then so be it. Remember you will have to do this in all your webs located in wwwroot/wss that you want the custom errors for. Open up your sites web.config, and make the standard custom errors edit. You want it to beWSS3.0 0Comments To get more detailed messages in MOSS 2007 and WSS3.0 during development process, user can enable debugging in the web.config file for the SharePoint web application:

That must be something specific to your farm or something you've named? Let us know what that is. One tip I can give for configuring the User Profile Sync is to be sure that you're logged in as the service account that will be running that service app. Also, be sure that service account is a local admin on the box where you're starting the service.SharePoint Architect || My Blog Proposed as answer by André Rentes Friday, October 22, 2010 12:28 PM Wednesday, February 24, 2010 4:15 AM 0 Sign in to vote Hi

Eventually, we dettached one content database from SQL server and so from sharepoint central administration. Now, when user tries to access that perticular site url or any list/libraries within that site, they recieve a common 404 site not found error!. is there any possibility to show them a customized error message like "The content has been removed by administrator" which should be displayed when user tries to access any content within this site collection which is being removed. database sharepoint share|improve this question asked Dec 5 '12 at 11:03 743 567 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted Just override the Error page, and show them your customized message if they have entered a URL that matches the removed site.
