Evidently a power surge from the printer. Brother's solution is to disconnect the printer and plug it into a separate circuit. Does anyone know of another solution to this problem. Will any type of power strip prevent this?GI iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.7) Posted on Jul 31, 2006 10:39 AM I have this question too Close Q: Brother printer and iMac shut down All replies Helpful answers by Antonio PureMacOnly, Antonio PureMacOnly Jul 31, 2006 10:54 AM in response to gozreh Level 3 (525 points) Jul 31, 2006 10:54 AM in response to gozreh I was just checking to see if there was an updated UB version of the driver for you printer. Are you sure that your model is HL5410, because I couldn't find it on the Brother website.Antonio Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by Al Van Malsen, Al Van Malsen Jul 31, 2006 11:01 AM in response to gozreh Level 6 (18,745 points) Jul 31, 2006 11:01 AM in response to gozreh Does the act of powering up the printer while your Mac is on actually trip the circuit breaker or just shut down the Mac? Are there other things plugged in and turned on that you could turn off before turning the printer on to test their theory. Too many devices on one circuit can certainly cause problems especiallyif you live in an older home with 15amp, non grounded cirucits and have many devices plugged in to the same circuit.
