com> Subject: Buffer I/O error on device sr0 Date: Sat, 09 Oct 2004 11:29:36 -0500 I used to think that the subject error in /var/log/messages dealt with sr_mod not being loaded by udev in initrd. Maybe it still https://www.redhat.com/archives/rhl-beta-list/2004-October/msg00613.html is, but I notice that sr_mod is getting loaded by something now, because /dev/scd0 exists http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?70132-Buffer-I-O-Error-on-Device-Sr0 automatically. But I still get this error (see sample below). Possibly related is the fact that CD audio utilities can't seem to deal (completely) with audio CDs in my SCSI CD drive. ("It worked in FC2.") Data CDs appear to have no problems, but I haven't really tested thoroughly. My friend's PC went kaput and i decided to put Linux back on instead of Windows. Formatted the drive, burnt a fresh SimplyMEPIS (latest version off their website) disk and a fresh Ubuntu (9.04) disk to see which they preferred (both onto DVD-RW, and then onto CD-R). I loaded up Ubuntu, went to run it off the CD and after i selected load Ubuntu without changing my computer it started its loading screen. Then it started saying Buffer I/O Error on Device Sr0, Logical Block .... and never went any farther. So i thought it was just a bad disk so i popped in the MEPIS disk and it started coming up with the exact same errors. I know theres nothing wrong with the HDD or the CD/DVD Drive as i c
