I guess that you are http://forums.justlinux.com/showthread.php?145085-Buffer-I-O-error-on-device-hdc trying to install Ubuntu Dapper using the 'desktop' cd, right? Does the live installer crash? If the above assumptions are correct, this is very likely to be a bad CD. Insert the CD, wait for the main menu to boot up and select "Check CD for defects". Perbiu (perbiu-deactivatedaccount) wrote on 2007-12-05: #3 system.dat Edit (94.6 KiB, chemical/x-mopac-input) Download full text (3.9 KiB) I also have logical block error since 7.04, now i am using 7.10 same problems, i tried to use GoS, being the same Ubuntu base has the same error during boot-up (successfully installed ubuntu after i removed the drive, and attach the drive later) or using live-cd/alternative error occurs. Also tried on Xubuntu. It happens on a specific old disk drive, a seagate barracuda. I have 2 of them both slave drive, one 40gb and and a 30gb, on a different computer, a celeron2.0 and a pentium4. Removing the disk drive will fix it, but not a solution, since i need the additional disk space. The error is "long & repetitive" and will drag the loading time too long up to 5-10 minutes But after that it will load up in the end, and the Disk drive is detected and working. But sometimes it will hang up on other computer that has the same error. Don't use the fancy ones with the wrapping around them.2-Make sure you have a GOOD power supply, not a $20 one.3-Don't use IBM Deskstar drives (or Hitachi for that matter), they won't stay in sync. This has happened to me several times.4-Check your memory - Boot with the CD and type memtest
