I have read numerous posts about this issue with the help desk e-mail settings however my situation is a bit different. I will describe that and what we have tried. This issue happens all the time. We've been using spiceworks for a year now. Every so often, all of a sudden, SW stops picking up e-mail from the account. When you go into the help desk email settings to reset it you will get the error;Error on outgoing settings: Could not reach Exchange server. Again, this never happend on the initial set up, only after it has been running. So no settings have ever been changed. In the past I've just tried re-saving the settings...sometimes it works, sometimes it takes about a few dozen attempts before it accepts and others (like now) nothing will work. Settings; Exchange (OWA) For the server I've tried all the combos....IP, domain, with /owa, with /exchange, without https, with https etc etc etc. User name....domain\user name, user name, email address etc etc etc The settings were pre-existing and worked fine. No clue what keeps undoing it. We use it daily then all of a sudden it will stop working and we are in a bad cycle of not getting it to pick up the e-mails again with the same (valid) settings. I've also re-set the password, can validate the account works in OWA. Spiceworks is runing as a service and we also restart it to see if that helps....nothing helps. Seems like its an ongoing quirk of SW and if so we may need to move away from this app. Its too unstable int his case. I cannot use pop or smtp, exchange is my only option right now. Any ideas out there to stop this going forward? Reply Subscribe RELATED TOPICS: Error on outgoing settings: Could not reach Exchange server at Help Desk: "Error on Outgoing Settings..." Exchange Settings In addition to the protocols above, Spiceworks also supports Exchange. Spiceworks uses OWA (Outlook Web Access) with Exchange (2003, 2007 and 2010). Configuring the Help Desk for Exchange is a little different than for the other protocols. We support both basic and FBA (Forms-Based Authentication) with Exchange. Spiceworks will automatically detect this for you. Protocol: If you want to use Exchange, select it as the protocol. Server: This is your Exchange server url. If you access your Exchange server's web interface by visiting https://mail.yourcompany.com then you will enter https://mail.yourcompany.com/exchange. If the OWA interface is at a different URL (for example: https://mail.yourcompany.com/owa), please enter that URL. If the URL doesn't work you may have to use the IP address of the exchange server (for example, http://192.168.1.1/exchange). Username: This is the username for the mailbox. Please note that this may be the full email address helpdesk@yourcompany.com or domainname\\username or just helpdesk, depending on your configuration. Password: This is the password for your mailbox. Troubleshooting Exchange Problems Spiceworks relies on Outlook Web Access to integrate with your Exchange server. When configuring your email settings in Spiceworks, you should use /exchange rather than /owa (e.g. https://exchCommunity! Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now Suddenly about 4pm yesterday afternoon, out helpdesk email stopped forwarding tickets into Spiceworks, the emails simply sit in the helpdesk email account doing nothing. No settings were changed in Spiceworks, that I know of, however when it comes to the Email Settings and we test the connection, I am getting the following error: error on outgoing settings: Could not reach exchange server at https://servername/exchange, please ensure the server is reachable. error on incoming settings : Could not reach exchange server at https://servername/exchange, please ensure the server is reachable. I have checked the password on the IT Helpdesk email account, and I have also tried replacing the servername with the IP address to no avail. I can ping our exchange server from the Spiceworks server, and even restarted the Spiceworks server as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
