Restore Verifyonly
8:43 PM Points: 7,932, Visits: 14,339 I am trying to restore a backup taken from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 R2. The restore process has worked countless times before, but this morning I received the error below:RESTORE detected an error on page (0:0) in database "database_name" as read from the backup set.Error: 3183, Severity: 16,
Continue_after_error
State: 1.I tried a second backup file from the day before but received the same result. I ran a RESTORE VERIFYONLY on both backup files through the 2008 R2 instance and after about 10 minutes (backup file is ~100GB) received the following errors from both:Msg 3189, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Damage to the backup set was detected.Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1VERIFY DATABASE is terminating abnormally.CHECKDB ran clean last weekend and no I/O errors were found in the error log on 2005.At present I am re-copying the latest backup file to the 2008 R2 server thinking it could have been a corruption when copying the file around the network...however I have little hope that is the issue since I get the same result from both backups taken on consecutive nights.Any insight into what might be going on? __________________________________________________________________________________________________There are no special teachers of virtue, because virtue is taught by the whole community. --Plato Post #1279635 Lynn PettisLynn Pettis Posted Frida

Then I've tried http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20544854/restore-detected-an-error-on-page-00 to restore from a older backup that a week ago was restored successfully and it throw the same error. The backup and the restore are on the same version. Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition (64-bit) What could happen? EDIT: I've tried to restore the backup on the production server and it works, but on test environment doesn't. Also I've tried to run first RESTORE FILELISTONLY from disk='D:\Backup.bak' And it work, but then I've tried restore VERIFYONLY from disk='D:\Backup.bak' And this throw me Msg 3203, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Read on "D:\Backup.bak" failed: 13(The data is invalid.) Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 VERIFY DATABASE is terminating abnormally. Last night the job failed – with the error : RESTORE detected an error on page (0:0) in database MYDB as read from the backup set. The correlating message in the Event Viewer is : The backup data at the end of "J:\mydrive\mydb.bak" is incorrectly formatted. Backup sets on the media might be damaged and unusable. To determine the backup sets on the media, use RESTORE HEADERONLY. To determine the usability of the backup sets, run RESTORE VERIFYONLY. If all of the backup sets are incomplete, reformat the media using BACKUP WITH FORMAT, which destroys all the backup sets. Speaking to the SAN administrator , there were some IO issues which coorelated at the same time . I reran the job approximately 1 hr later and the job worked OK.
