So recently I've been getting this bug... I may be wrong, but, I believe it appeared after I tried to cache my HDD with an msata SSD (mounted on my Z77X motherboard) and failed because I found out you can't cache the HDD and SSD unless you reinstall windows, otherwise I'd have to go through some more complicated steps. I gave up and returned the small SSD.

What's going on?: So basically whenever I turn off the computer I get this little window that opens up called "cmd.exe - Application Error" and in the window it says "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application." After this message shows up, it goes away after a few seconds (usually) and then the computer turns off like it usually does. I don't know if this is actually affecting anything, but I'm not sure why it's happening so I'd like to know, thanks for the help guys. I'm not very familiar with the event viewer, but I did look around the application problems and I couldn't find anything to do with cmd.exe and also when I did the sfc/scannow, no violations were found. This screenshot is right after restarting the computer (and getting the error) I find no warnings/errors in the applications log. After shutting the computer down in safe mode, I do not get the error message. But when I go back to shut it down normally, it does display the error. windows-7 windows shutdown cmd.exe application-error share|improve this question edited Dec 14 '14 at 21:29 asked Dec 14 '14 at 4:56 Angelo Cassinelli 30115 Does anything relevant to cmd.exe show up in the Event Log around the time that you shutdown? I recently wiped my rig after installing two new hard drives and a second GPU. I went through a complicated ordeal http://superuser.com/questions/852344/error-on-shutdown-cmd-exe-application-error-0xc0000142 to finally get things set up the way I wanted and things seem to be working correctly now, but for some reason every time I go to shut down my computer, a few seconds before Windows 7 actually closes down, I recieve the following error prompt: " cmd.exe Application Error The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2422119/cmd-exe-application-error-shutdown.html close the application. OK " Mind you, this prompt only stays open for several seconds and does not prevent windows from closing. I'm mostly just concerned that this is pointing to some underlying issue with my setup that may or may not show itself at a later point. If I do need to reinstall Windows or something, I'd like to get that part done sooner than later. If nothing else, it's a bit annoying to see every time I shut my computer down. That being said, here's what I've been working on since I started everything so hopefully this may shed some light on the issue for everyone: -I recently added a second GTX 780 SC to my rig for an SLI setup as well as a new 250GB SSD and a 4TB HDD. -I use the Windows 7 upgrade so I have to install Windows XP first, get it to the point that it's authenticated, and then I can install the Windows 7 upgrade (yeah, it's kind of a pain). -For some reason when I initially installed Windows 7, it by defau

I verified with (2) clean installs https://forums.viivo.com/showthread.php?3253-Application-Error-on-Windows-10-Shutdown-Restart that after installing Avast free antivirus that on either shutdown or restart my PC throws an error that CMD.exe Application error has occurred. It says this:The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application. After uninstalling Avast the error has gone away. I believe that the NEW error on hardware I am using is causing the error by the PC shutting down too fast. I have Viivo 3.0.95 on a public release Windows 10 64 bit machine and I'm getting similar issues. Except my error codes say the instruction at 7c7c2029 referenced memory at 7c7c2029 - with a lot of 0's in front! Only happens when I shut down. I just have to click through it, but it's a little annoying. My encrypted folder is in Dropbox, and it's synced to an unencrypted folder in my User path. I set the registry to autoend tasks on shutdown... doesn't seem to cause any harm.
