However, when I utilize NETSTAT to verify the servers are listening on the appropriate ports, I see that SNMP is set to all IPs on all servers (UDP 0.0.0.0:161 *:*), but I do not see the "Listening" state as I do on other network services via the NETSTAT query. My questions are... How do I ensure that SNMP is functioning properly? How do I configure the SNMP service to bind to only one network adapter/IP address? Thank you. To verify SNMP function, you could download Snmputil.exe and run query command "snmputil getnext localhost public .1.3.6.1.4.1.77.1". http://www.petri.co.il/download_free_reskit_tools.htm http://support.microsoft.com/kb/232663 2.As i know, you cannot bind SNMP service with only one NIC. I was supposed to put snmp on a class of ip's like : 10.300.x.x ( ip's in this class have to permit snmp interogation) , which I had no idea how to do . Then one of my colleagues said I should only put snmp on 10.10.13.4 because it holds the entire 10.300.x.x class. I cannot speak to my colleague now, he's on vacation. I tried every way to telnet or vnc 10.10.13.4 with no succces. I tried to see if ports https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/ee03f052-f64d-4089-b227-8e377fece592/snmp-windows-server-2003?forum=winservergen 161 and 162 are open, but they're not. I have acces to a windows 2003 server and I figure that's the way I should put snmp on 10.10.13.4, from the windows 2003 server. Does anyone have any idea how I should start to do this without having access to 10.10.13.4 (put snmp on 10.10.13.4) ? Should there be a snmp server or something like that ? Could the windows 2003 server be the snmp server ? Are there some command prompt comands I should run to check if http://www.networking-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=23789 it is ? matgar Ultimate Member Posts: 757 Joined: Wed Nov 17, 2010 5:53 pm Certs: CCNP, CCIP, CCNA Security Re: put snmp on an ip or class of ip's Tue Apr 26, 2011 10:21 am First of all id like to you what you mean when you say you want to put snmp on something. aldo New Member Posts: 13 Joined: Sun Oct 03, 2010 9:30 am Re: put snmp on an ip or class of ip's Tue Apr 26, 2011 2:02 pm The only explanation I have for that is that after I would "put snmp on it" all the ip's in the class 10.300.x.x would pe permited to be snmp interogated. I also understood this : it would be the same thing and would be done by exactly the same means if I would 'put snmp' on each individual ip in the class 10.300.x.x or 'put snmp ' just on 10.10.13.4 because it holds the entire 10.300.x.x class. Somehow I assume it should be done somewhere on the snmp server, if a snmp server exists , somewhere where I should just add 10.10.13.4 . I am assuming this because as I said I have no kind of access to 10.10.13.4 . I imagine all this should make sense for someone who has worked with snmp before, I hope so anyways .. . scorpions84 New Member Posts: 47 Joined: Mon Jan 17, 2011 8:35 am Re: put snmp on an ip or class of ip's Tue Apr 26, 2011 9:12 pm Yes, your colleague is right regarding on 10.10.13

I'm assuming someone somewhere got caught with their pants down and so now everyone must suffer for it. I set up SNMP as directed but when I error on snmpmgrrequest try using the Paessler SNMP test tool I am unable to get it to work. I'm using the OID also supplied to me and have tried looking up other possible OIDs. with the supplied OID I get: Device: 192.168.1.2 7/14/2011 12:33:44 PM (39 ms) : Start using SNMP V1 7/14/2011 12:33:54 PM (10049 ms) : ------- 7/14/2011 12:33:54 PM (10057 ms) : Value: No response (check: firewalls, routing, snmp settings of device, IPs, SNMP version, community, passwords etc) (SNMP error # -2003) 7/14/2011 12:33:54 PM (10064 ms) : Done There are no firewalls turned on on this server... the AV does not have the firewall portion installed on it, I've tried the public community string as well as the one we created... I've tried it locally on the server and remotely. netstat -ano shows UDP 0.0.0.0:161 The other OIDs I tried using that I looked up myself all give an "error converting OID" error.
