Salt Stack member terminalmage commented Nov 4, 2014 Thanks. I edited your comment to use triple-graves to make it more readable. This error seems to be because COPR is using sha256 checksums in its repo metadata. RHEL/CentOS 5 ships with Python 2.4 as the version used by yum, and the hashlib module (required for just ab

I tried to use the provided RPM repository on CentOS 5, so I followed provided instructions of this https://github.com/saltstack/salt/issues/17108 page http://overviewer.org/rpms/info/, and did this : $ wget -O /etc/yum.repos.d/overviewer.repo http://overviewer.org/rpms/overviewer.repo But when I try to install : $ yum install Minecraft-Overviewer I have this : overviewer | 1.3 kB 00:00 overviewer/primary | 1.2 kB 00:00 http://overviewer.org/rpms/5/x86_64/repodata/primary.xml.gz: [Errno -3] Error performing checksum Trying other mirror. overviewer/primary | 1.2 kB 00:00 http://overviewer.org/rpms/5/x86_64/repodata/primary.xml.gz: [Errno -3] Error performing checksum Trying other mirror. Error: failure: repodata/primary.xml.gz from overviewer: [Errno 256] https://github.com/overviewer/Minecraft-Overviewer/issues/630 No more mirrors to try. Thanks in advance ! Minecraft Overviewer member aheadley commented Mar 9, 2012 There were some issues with the el5 rpms but they should be fixed now, are you still getting this error after doing a yum clean all? darknessgp commented Mar 9, 2012 I am as well getting these "Error performing checksum" error messages. I have run the yum clean and I still get the same errors. Minecraft Overviewer member aheadley commented Mar 9, 2012 Ok, looks like older versions of CentOS don't support sha256 hashes so I've changed the repo to use sha1. Can you run yum clean all && yum update Minecraft-Overviewer and see if it works now? darknessgp commented Mar 9, 2012 That worked for me with CentOS 5. Thank you very much! eminence closed this Mar 9, 2012 Gwend4l commented Mar 10, 2012 Problem solved indeed. Thanks ! Sign up for free to join this conversation on GitHub. Already have an account? doing a yum update on a centos5 or rhel5 box, using rpms from a error performing repository on a centos6 or rhel6 server (or anywhere else with a more modern createrepo available), and you get errors like this: http://example.com/repodata/filelists.sqlite.bz2: [Errno -3] Error performing checksum error performing checksum http://example.com/repodata/primary.sqlite.bz2: [Errno -3] Error performing checksum What this really means that yum is too stupid to calculate the sha256 checksum correctly (and also too stupid to give you a sensible error message like "Sorry, primary.sqlite.bz2 is using a sha256 checksum, but I don't know how to calculate that"). The fix is simple: yum install python-hashlib from either rpmforge or epel, which makes the necessary libraries available for yum to calculate the new checksums correctly. Sorted.
