Start > Run > type in cmd then click OK to get a command prompt. 2. Type in chkdsk e: /r (replace e: with the drive letter of your external hard drive). This won't do any harm, it will fix errors on the disk and try to recover data from bad http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/47189/?o=40 sectors. So I decided to remove the Hitachi IDE HDD from my laptop and purchased a 2.5" external enclosure. In attempt to recover the data, i received "Error Performing Inpage Operation" i thought it was due to the enclosure, so i brought it back to Fry's and had a tech take a look at the HDD. He told me that it would cost $150 to do a "possible" recovery (he was unsure if he were able to retrieve the data). So i decided to purchase a different 2.5" external enclosure (i-rocks). Pluged it into another laptop (my sony & my dell) and received "Error Performing Inpage Operation" I attempted to use Magic Partition 8 Pro, but it was unsuccessful in recovering the data. So I looked through many google searches, until i found

Holly, Jul 24, 2004. Holly Guest I have been using my Maxtor 5000LE external drive for months - attached to my Dell Optiplex GX110 computer (bios 9), Operating System windows 2000 through a Belkin USB 2.0 card). Last week I installed a TDK CD burner (there was another CD Rom installed). After that, although the 5000LE shows up in hardware in the system, I have no access to it. I get a message E:/ is not accessible. Error performing inpage operation. I tried taking the TDK burner out but even then the 5000LE wouldn't work. I have tried unplugging the 5000LE and then replugging it in, but still doesn't work. I have tried plugging it into the computer USB port, and the BELKIN USB 2.0 card - neither helps. I have tried reinstalling the drive. The drive shows up under Disk Management, it shows as Sys: Basic; 76.33 GB; online; Healthy. Maxtor's only suggestion was to change the drive letter. I did this but still have the same problem. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Holly, Jul 24, 2004 #1 Advertisements dbarrett Guest Hi there.
