July 25, 2010 at 00:01:10 Specs: Windows XP I logged into a (non-administrator) http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-security/windows-xp-profile-issue-detail-error-performing/69db4057-57ed-4a99-8980-7c78079d1092 account on Windows XP and it gave me a message reading "Windows cannot load this user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system. Details: error performing inpage operation." (Exact text.)It gives me a 30-second count to click "OK". When I click or the count runs down it displays my wallpaper, but no taskbar or icons. A window http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/error-performing-inpage-operation/186702.html flashes briefly saying "Personalizing settings", then a standard "encountered a problem and needs to close" dialog appears saying that Windows Explorer has crashed.Pressing ctrl+alt+delete brings up the Task Manager, but the appearance of the window is like in earlier versions of Windows. Not sure how to describe it.Running programs is still possible using the "New task" button in Task Manager, but re-running explorer.exe doesn't work. I have already run chkdsk.exe and restarted, with no results. Please help! I'd really prefer not to have to reinstall the OS. Are there any other solutions?
