March 2011 08:42 in Storage Share Galin 20 February 2007 05:31:31 Hi everyone, error performing inpage operation server 2008 I’ve been building my own systems for a couple years now and I usually do my own tech support error performing inpage operation cd but this one has me stumped. First my laptop (Dell Inspiron 8500) stopped booting, giving me a BSOD every time I tried. I took out the HD and mounted it in an external http://www.tech-faq.com/error-performing-inpage-operation.html drive enclosure (NexStar USB 2.0) and hooked it up to my desktop to get the data off it before reformatted the drive, assuming at this point that it was just a corrupted copy of windows I was dealing with. However, when I tried to open the drive in windows explorer I got a “can not read drive F: Error Performing Inpage Operation” message. I tried rebooting http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/224954-32-trouble-quot-error-performing-inpage-operation-quot the system a couple times to no avail. After an online search the only info I was able to find was that my HD was probably failing and to try Ontrack’s Easy Recovery Pro. I tried the software and I was able to see the data on the drive just fine, but to get it off I will have to buy the software. This is going to set me back about $90. It’s worth it to me to get the data(serves me right for not backing up my data as often as I should), but I hate to shell out the cash if I’m just missing something simple that would let me access the drive. Thank you in advance for your advice, I’ve found the comments on this site invaluable over the years. System Specs. Following are the causes of the error message and what to do at this. Causes: • The error message only comes up when you try to access any partition on the drive or perform some operations on it. • The error message can also mean that your drive is in bad state and is experiencing some physical problems. What to do: When you start receiving this error, no doubt your hard disk is in bad condition. There is nothing much that can be done with this problem and also there is no solution available for that so just back up most of the data that you can and send it for replacement. It is time you should have a new hard disk for yourself. Start > Run > type in cmd then click OK to get a command prompt. 2. Type chkdsk e: /r (replace e: with the drive letter of your external hard drive with the issue). of course then press enter takes quite a while, 2 to 4 hours probably, maybe more depending on drive size and amount of errors. also you could use a /f instead of /r. /r attemps to recover bad sectors. /f tries to fix bad sectors. /f does not try to repair so you would have more data loss, but if its that bad its another option. /? will show all options.
