tech support but this one has me stumped. First my laptop (Dell Inspiron 8500) stopped booting, giving me a BSOD every time I tried. I took out the HD and mounted http://www.tomsguide.com/forum/238880-49-error-performing-inpage-operation it in an external drive enclosure (NexStar USB 2.0) and hooked it up to my desktop to get the data off it before reformatted the drive, assuming at this point that it was just a corrupted copy of windows I was dealing with. However, when I tried to open the drive in windows explorer I got a “can not read drive F: Error Performing http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/224954-32-trouble-quot-error-performing-inpage-operation-quot Inpage Operation” message. I tried rebooting the system a couple times to no avail. After an online search the only info I was able to find was that my HD was probably failing and to try Ontrack’s Easy Recovery Pro. I tried the software and I was able to see the data on the drive just fine, but to get it off I will have to buy the software. This is going to set me back about $90. It’s worth it to me to get the data(serves me right for not backing up my data as often as I should), but I hate to shell out the cash if I’m just missing something simple that would let me access the drive. Thank you in advance for your advice, I’ve found the comments on this site invaluable over the years. System Specs. i tried to open my External Hardrive, I came across this error message "H:\ is not accessible, Error Performing Inpage Operation". I am sure most of them might have come across this problem and hope below solution might solve the issue, http://www.technotipsblog.com/2011/10/error-performing-inpage-operation-on.html When i encountered this problem, i did a quick search in google and most people advised http://techsalsa.com/what-to-do-at-error-performing-inpage-operation/ to go for new replacement rather trying with error prone external hard drive. Even at that moment, i even thought my old data was lost and in fact i was looking for some data recovery tools and other solutions to recover my data from hard drive. (probably a complex process :P) Also When i was navigating to Disk Management (Storage) utility under Computer Management, error performing I was noticing for Errors in hard drive the file type was empty rather (FAT/NTFS) and free size as full disk size, which worried me as i thought the hard drive was corrupted or data should have been erased completely. Following are the causes of the error message and what to do at this. Causes: • The error message only comes up when you try to access any partition on the drive or perform some operations on it. • The error message can also mean that your drive is in bad state and is experiencing some physical problems. What to do: When you start receiving this error, no doubt your hard disk is in bad condition. There is nothing much that can be done with this problem and also there is no solution available for that so just back up most of the data that you can and send it for replacement. It is time you should have a new hard disk for yourself.
