Posted on 2005-02-01 Hardware 4 Verified Solutions 18 Comments 52,476 Views Last Modified: 2011-08-18 A desktop computer in our home has just come up with:" F:\ is not accessible. error performing Error performing inpage operation." This computer is not networked and has never been on the Internet. We do transfer some files back and forth, but I've been updated with McAfee automatically, and I've scanned everything (I know that does not guarantee a lack of a virus, but it's as close as I can get). This is my girlfriend's computer, it hasn't been backed up in a few weeks, and I'll be sleeping in the error performing inpage garage if I botch the data recovery on it. Most of her data consists of images - TIFFs, JPEGs, and Photoshop formats. The only tinkering I've done on her machine (and my desktop, which also had a similar crash) is to install Windows 2000 sp4. I've read a couple of boards that report a similar problem with sp4, although there seemed to be a decent lag (at least a week) betwen installing sp4 & the error. I've also transferred some of my files onto her computer via a USB flash drive. Any ideas on reading & repairing the drive? It makes a consistent, short crunching sound whien I double click on it, and then the error message comes up after about 15 seconds. I'm very inexperienced in the area of data recovery, so if you have suggestions, please angle them more toward the Beginner end of the spectrum. 0 Question by:roeperdan Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 67 Active 1 day ago Best Solution bysirbounty Another possibilty ericpete...it could be a partition - Disk Mgt will show you that as well. You might also want to try some diagnostics, which are dependent upon your drive manufacturer... Holly, Jul 24, 2004. Holly Guest I have been using my Maxtor 5000LE external drive for months - attached to my Dell Optiplex GX110 computer (bios 9), Operating System windows 2000 through a Belkin USB 2.0 card). Last week I installed a TDK CD burner (there was another CD Rom installed). After that, although the 5000LE shows up in hardware in the system, I have no access to it. I get a message E:/ is not accessible. Error performing inpage operation. I tried taking the TDK burner out but even then the 5000LE wouldn't work. I have tried unplugging the 5000LE and then replugging it in, but still doesn't work. I have tried plugging it into the computer USB port, and the BELKIN USB 2.0 card - neither helps. I have tried reinstalling the drive. The drive shows up under Disk Management, it shows as Sys: Basic; 76.33 GB; online; Healthy. Maxtor's only suggestion was to change the drive letter. I did this but still have the same problem. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Holly, Jul 24, 2004 #1 Advertisements dbarrett Guest Hi there.
