I took out the HD and mounted it in an external drive enclosure (NexStar error performing inpage operation server 2008 USB 2.0) and hooked it up to my desktop to get the data off it before reformatted the drive, assuming at this point that it was just a corrupted copy of windows I was dealing with. However, when I tried to open the drive in windows explorer I got a “can not read drive F: Error Performing Inpage Operation” message. I tried

rebooting the system a couple times to no avail. After an online search the only info I was able to find was that my HD was probably failing and to try Ontrack’s Easy Recovery Pro. I tried the software and I was able to see the data on the drive just fine, but to get it off I will have to buy the software. This is going to set me back about $90. It’s worth it to me to get the data(serves me right for not backing up my data as often as I should), but I hate to shell out the cash if I’m just missing something simple that would let me access the drive. Thank you in advance for your advice, I’ve found the comments on this site invaluable over the years.System Specs.DesktopMB: Asus P5WD2-PremiumRam: 2gig Balistix-667CPU: P4 3.4ghzGPU: ATI X850 PEOS: XP Pro SP2Laptop: Dell Inspiron 8500Ram: 640CPU: P4 Mobile 2.4ghzGPU: ATI 9000 mobileOS: XP Home SP2HD: Toshiba 30gigIf I’ve missed any important specs, please let me know 48 answers Last reply Mar 4, 2011 More about trouble quot error perfor

If I cancel the error message, copying resumes for a minute or so then a different error message 'Data error (cyclic redundancy check) pops up, cancel that and a minute later the 'error performing inpage operation' is http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/156504-error-performing-inpage-operation/ back' cancel that and the 'Data error blah blah' returns ...... and so on and so forth. I've tried two different computers with exactly the same results on each. Only common factor is the (legitimately) copied XP Pro CD (and yes I do have a number of proper keys).
 Ponch 4 4 3,344 posts November 24, 2005 OS: none specified Posted April 26, 2012 If it is legitimately copied, why don't you try the original ? Either the media is defective or the copy went wrong.
 praxidice 0 0 2 posts April 26, 2012 OS: XP Pro x86 Posted April 26, 2012 If it is legitimately copied, why don't you try the original ?
