I am trying to install Ubuntu from a usb drive, and after trying 3 different USB drives, 3 http://askubuntu.com/questions/769271/cant-run-install-ubuntu-from-usb-error-setting-up-gfxboot separate downloads of Ubuntu (2 of 16.04 and 1 of 14.04), and 3 different USB creators, I always get error messages when I try to boot from the drives like this: Loading Bootlogo bootlogo: invalid file format Error setting up gfxboot boot: And this: Error Screen I tried a solution from another question that said to type 'help' at the boot prompt and then press enter, and this either gives me the message "uncompression error --system halted" or "could not allocate memory" and I have to hold the power button to switch the laptop off. I am able to get into the root shell by holding down shift during boot up and entering the GRUB options, but I have no idea what to try. At this point I just want the laptop to work, I don't care about losing all my data. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks. UPDATE: I've successfully managed to install Ubuntu 16.04 - I think changing the boot order in the BIOS rather than just trying to temporary boot from the USB is what did it. usb 16.04 share|improve this question edited May 8 at 16:49 asked May 8 at 10:04 cltweedie 13 add a comment| active oldest votes Know someone who can answer? Hello, There is a bug when you try to install Ubuntu (15.10 and 16.04) on some Chromebook in legacy bios mode (mine is error setting a HP Chromebook 14). When you boot on the usb key you have this error : *graphics initialization failed* *Error setting up gfxboot* *boot:* On previous Ubuntu versions there was a workaround. error setting up You had to type "help" (after boot:) then hit "enter". That doesn't work anymore. Gallium OS which is based on Xubuntu 15.04 works and don't need a workaround. Maybe it's a good place to start. It will be great if it can be fixed for Ubuntu 16.04 ! https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1530530 Thanks ! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
