Miller123 Level 1 (0 points) Q: Downgrade of iTunes 11 to 10.7 = error message (-42408) So I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and immediately regretted it. I then went about reinstalling 10.7 by downloading it from Apple's website and then deleted 11. I replaced the new itunes library with the latest 'previous' version from the itunes folder. So 10.7 is up and running again but now I get 2 error messages every time I open it. One says 'An unknown error occured (-402408)' then one appears immediately after saying 'We could not complete your itunes store request. An unknown error occured (-402408). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later' After I click these away iTunes opperates normally. I'm sure these error messages are related to my cut and paste way of downgrading itunes but how do i stop the errors from occuring? Is there another file i need to delete/modify/replace?I really dont want to have to upgrade to 11, I can't stand the new layout that they for some reason are forcing you to have. Any help would be hugely appreciated,Thanks,JackRunning OSX 10.6.8 on a macbook pro. Alternatively:Back up your computer first, in case the unexpected happens.Get iTunes 10.7. Apple does not keep many old versions on its web site. I always install iTunes by downloading the installer and then keep it on my archive drive so I can have access to old versions. Lion (OSX 10.7) and newer systems have iTunes integrated into the operating system and deleting is a bit more involved. The two ways I can think of to do this are:1. Use the shareware Pacifist utility (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to install iTunes 10.7 including all associated system files..2. And, after weighing up various options, including various alternative players, I decided https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4557875?tstart=0 to downgrade to iTunes 10.7. iTunes 10.7 supports iOS 6 so I would still be able to sync my iPhone while enjoying all the features and aesthetics which are sadly (and annoyingly) lacking in iTunes 11. I can confirm that by using this method my iPhone, which is currently running iOS 6, does not get the "restore factory settings" error and has no problems syncing and accessing all the apps I downloaded using iTunes 11. I also did not get the dreaded error message (-42408). https://thoughtsviewsopinions.wordpress.com/2013/02/18/how-to-downgrade-from-itunes-11-to-itunes-10-7-a-solution-to-a-few-other-itunes-errors/ I had both these problems when I tried to downgrade previously. So this guide also provides a solution to these errors. I would also like to add that my iPhone is not jailbroken (just FYI). iTunes 10 includes all the following features which I missed EVERY TIME I used iTunes 11: displaying a playlist in shuffle order remembering your shuffled playlist order when you restart iTunes having the album art viewer in the sidebar displaying music videos in the album art viewer actually having a usable volume control for Mini Player an aesthetic which does not burn my eyes every time I look at it (etc. etc. it's a long list…) So I wanted iTunes 10 back. I thought it would be fairly straightforward to downgrade - just uninstall iTunes 11 and then install iTunes 10.7. How wrong I was! The basic reason for this is that iTunes makes little notes about the version you are using all over your system. It won’t let you downgrade because all these notes have no instructions built in to cope with that. Apple doesn’t expect you to want to downgrade so that eventuality has not been prepared for. If you decide you want to downgrade you will probably encounter the following problems: 1.) A message about an unknown error (-42408). 2.) A message about being unable to connect your iPhone and needing you to restore it [the iPhone] to the factory settings. I know that there are all sorts of solutions and ad
