After downloading the latest Microsoft updates and security patches for this virus that hit last week, the above error happen. The desktop does not exe error open. Start button will pop up, but after the error message appears it goes away. Pressing ctrl-alt-del will bring up Task Manager, but Explorer is not running, nor is anything else. Press New Task and get a new error message, but this one is from Task Manger: Tskmgr.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. Can not explorer.exe error windows boot up in Safe mode because of the same above errors. However, can boot to a command prompt. Took the HDD out and scanned it with another computer and nothing found. How can I fix this problem? How can I remove any updates if I can not get to Windows Control Panel: Add/Remove Programs? Can I just copy explorer.exe from some where into the system32 directory? If so where can I get a copy of it? I have my Win2000 disc., but the computer I have used to scan the HDD and look at all of the files and stuff is a XP machine. Does it make a difference.
