Hp Color Laserjet 2600n Spooler Error
Comment This is really Henry's tip, but having just reapplied it, I decided to make a post about it anyway. We recently installed a new HP 2600n laser printer for a customer, it's quite a cheap unit but seems to perform reasonably and is easy to deal with (excluding the below, of course). After installing the drivers on the server, we deployed the printer and tested it - all appeared to be working fine. However, a few print jobs later, the print queue decides to lock up. No more items are sent to the printer, however they are sitting in the queue. We restarted the print spooler service, and all the jobs from the queue were fed to the printer and printed correctly - could it be a one off? No would be the short answer to that one, later that week, the same thing happened again. The print queue still accepts jobs, but nothing is sent to the printer. Having decided to have a look through the printer options to see what could be done, it was decided that ‘Enable bidirectional support' was a prime candidate for the chop. The above can be found on the ports tab in printer properties. Unchecking this box resolved all the problems we were encountering, and the printer has gone for many weeks without freezing the print queue again. Let us know if this solves the same issue for you! 16 comments so far Add Your Comment Henrysaid:2008.11.1119:07 The 2600n is a host based printer, which seems to be part of the problem. According to HP: A host-based printer utilizes the host computer's processing power to convert the software application's page information into a raster format to be printed by the printer. Since newer computers process at much faster speeds than most printers processors, complex jobs could print faster when utilizing a host-based printer driver. However, this seems, in my experience to be more unreliable than a traditional printer. Nebi

But we have a problem with a HP LaserJet 2600n. This printer is not supported by HP Universal Printer drivers, nor has its drivers been updated passed Server 2003. I've tried all the drivers that HP offer on there site for the 2600n, but none seems to work. So I ask here if anyone has successfully managed to get this printer working on Windows server 2008 and how. Any help would be greatly appreciated. UPDATE: In the end we replaced the printer. windows-server-2008 network-printer share|improve this question edited Nov 16 '10 at 10:27 asked Aug 12 '10 at 10:16 thing2k 326515 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted Replace the printer, as it is not supported and does not work on Windows 2008 R2. share|improve this answer answered May 24 '11 at 14:02 thing2k 326515 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote I have had huge problems installing HP printers on server 2003 & 2008 not on a dedicated print server but on a general use terminal server. my workaround was to map the HP Laserjet 4 drivers to the printer and then trick windows into thinking it is the correct dri
