go into 'My Computer' and click on either of the icons for the drives it comes up with a message 'D:\ (or E:\) is not accessible. Incorrect function.' and no matter what else I try (run, clicking a game icon on the desk top, etc...), it won't run the disk and always comes up with this message. I have windows XP, and I've tried troubleshooting and looking through windows' online support/information, and I'm not finding it very helpful. If I go to 'Device Manager' incorrect function error usb and look at the device status of either of the drives, it says the "The device is working properly" and doesn't show that anything is wrong. I have not recently installed windows XP, and I know that the disk drives are compatible with XP, since I've had this computer for over a year and they've worked fine until a few weeks ago. I haven't changed any hardware or anything like that either. Can someone help me identify what the problem is and suggest some ways to fix it? Now reboot your system, and let Windows redetect them. If that doesn`t work, maybe changing the ide cable will help. Go to Properties; Click on Recording; Check "Enable CD recording on this drive". If it wasn't clicked before this will probably do it. Sep 3, 2005 #3 noniekimp TS Rookie Feeling your frustation! I am experiencing the same problem. I think mine started when I installed/uninstalled XP Pro. I was receiving the 'not accesible/incorrect function' message from both the CD and DVD ROM drives. Of course the

Free PC Support Forum Home -> Helproom Author Message onaucJoined: 12 Jan 2010Posts: 3 Posted: Mon May 17, 2010 11:54 pm Post subject: Error: D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function. Hello, The following is my laptop spec: Technology TL-60 1.99Ghz, 1.87BG of Ram, Physical Address Extension Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-860H Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3 Now, whenever I insert a cd on my Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-860H, it shows this error message: "D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function". I experience the same whenever I insert a blank dvd rw. However, if the dvd rw is not blank then I am able to see the contents of the dvd rw disc without getting this error. What is wrong ? On my Windows Registry, I have 24 instances of this: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and on more than one of then the "Upper Filter" exists therefore I am unable to decide which one's "Upper" I should delete to see if the problem gets fixed or not. I have seen on many forums others experiencing the same and getting advised to uninstall Roxio but I don't think I have it or the Nero because I can't find them on my Start-> All Programs. And, I don't think that, me not having a cd burner software is the problem because like I mentioned before, I am able to see the contents of a dvd disc inserted on my dvd drive providing the disc is not empty. I have seen the following solution mentioned on the internet: "Got to the Drive letter in Windows Explorer and right clicking on it. Go to Properties; Click on Recording; Check "Enable CD recording on this drive". But the problem is, I can see only this much on my WinXp SP3: Windows Explorer-> DVD-Ram' and after right clicking on it -> Properties; but there is no "recording" tab. Therefore, I cannot check the "Enable CD recording on this drive" option. I am really stuck now ! Can some techie specialist help ? Thank You Back to top demdikeJoined: 23 Apr 2010Posts: 105Location: Malkin Tower Posted: Tue May 18, 2010 7:19 pm Post subject: try running the fixtool provided by Microsoft on thsi web page http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_d
