How To Fix Incorrect Function Error
Forums Community Ask a Question Today's Posts D:\ is not accessible. Incorrectfunction. ByBlink Jul 6, 2005 Page 1 of 2 1 2 Next > Just recently, my CD-ROM and CD-RW, (D:\ and E:\ drives) Have stopped working. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/315350 If I put in a disk, the program does not automatically run, whether it be a game, Audio CD, etc. If I go into 'My Computer' and click on either of the icons for the drives it comes up with a message 'D:\ (or E:\) is not accessible. Incorrect function.' and no matter what else I try (run, clicking a game icon on the desk top, etc...), it won't run the disk and http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/d-is-not-accessible-incorrect-function.28166/ always comes up with this message. I have windows XP, and I've tried troubleshooting and looking through windows' online support/information, and I'm not finding it very helpful. If I go to 'Device Manager' and look at the device status of either of the drives, it says the "The device is working properly" and doesn't show that anything is wrong. I have not recently installed windows XP, and I know that the disk drives are compatible with XP, since I've had this computer for over a year and they've worked fine until a few weeks ago. I haven't changed any hardware or anything like that either. Can someone help me identify what the problem is and suggest some ways to fix it? Now reboot your system, and let Windows redetect them. If that doesn`t work, maybe changing the ide cable will help. Access is denied up vote 3 down vote favorite 2 All of the sudden the D drive gives me an error when I try to open it: D:\ is not accessible. Access is denied. I have files on the drive that I would like to recover, so I do not want to reformat the drive. It acts almost like the computer doesn't recognize the drive. I have a feeling it's something with security settings, I may have accidentally changed something on the drive. I'm running on a Acer Aspire laptop on Windows Vista, SP2. I beleive both the C and the D drive run off of the same disk drive. At least that's all the Device Manager shows. So correct me if I'm wrong, but that would make it a partitioned drive. hard-drive laptop windows-vista permissions share|improve this question edited Oct 9 '13 at 13:50 Dave M 12.3k82436 asked Oct 1 '11 at 1:58 Aaron 16112 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote Try right clicking on the D: and go to Properties. Click on the security tab and add the user EVERYONE to the list of Group or User Names. Give EVERYONE full control in the little box below. See if this will get you access to the drive. It sounds like you have changed users and/or physical computers (hence switching users again.) share|improve this answer answered Oct 1 '11 at 4:28 kobaltz 13k22247 I would check first if the already assigned rights fit the user who wants to access the drive. If it fits, I wouldn't change anything in this situation but try to save my data in any other way. –boboes Jul 11 at 17:29 +1 Damn.. This actually worked! –Drejon Sep 11 at 17:51 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote Click Start Button and type "diskmgmt.msc" Right-click the "diskmgmt" and select "Run as Administrator" Select the D: drive and right-click it. Select "Change Drive Letter and Paths" Click "Change" Select the drive from the list of drives on the top-right corner and click OK Make sure that the drive you want to change is not
