No messages about the daemons shutting down appear, just the kdm login window. Further if the user then selects shutdown again while the login window remains present an X error occurs. In /var/log/messages the following lines appear on the shutdown options being selected:- kdm[769]: IO Error in XOpenDisplay kdm[754]: Display :0 cannot be opened If I select /sbin/reboot or /sbin/halt while in a kde session or remote logged in while kdm is running, the above error does not occur. In 6.1 this functions correctly. Comment 1 Aleksey Nogin 2000-06-02 18:40:08 EDT I only tried using kdm's "Shutdown" in RH6.2 once and I had the same problem. Also, this is probably a duplicate of bug #10662 and bug #11028 Comment 2 Bernhard Rosenkraenzer 2000-10-20 08:26:33
29 Dec 2004 13:30:49 +0100 Message-id: <200412291330.49958.sunnyboyfrank@web.de> Hey, i installed a pure64 https://lists.debian.org/debian-amd64/2004/12/msg00572.html debian from alioth some days ago and and can`t get the nvidia drivers working. /var/log/syslog: Dec 28 16:28:00 localhost kdm: :0[5941]: IO Error in XOpenDisplay Dec 28 16:28:00 localhost kdm[5933]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly Dec 28 16:28:00 localhost io error kdm[5933]: Display :0 cannot be opened Dec 28 16:28:00 localhost kdm[5933]: Unable to fire up local display :0; disabling. Using the nv driver everything works fine, but using the nvidia driver the reported problem takes place. I commented out the io error in dri and glcore load command in XF86Config-4 and declined to install the 32-bit compatibility stuff. The kernel is a 2.6.10, but with a 2.6.9 i have the same problem. The nvidia driver is the actual one from nvidia.com (6629). Can anybody give me a hint, what's the problem?
