Io Error Trying To Read Or Write To Disk Quark

I am using Quark 8.5.1. I just laid out an 80 page magazine and when I try to save my work I get this error message. I tried throwing out my Quark preferences thinking maybe they became corrupt, but that did not solve the issue. Next step will be to reinstall Quark, but I am trying to avoid that. Please help! The drive needs to be formatted and restored from a backup, or (preferably) replaced. I am sure this is an inevitability where the drive is concerned, though my iMac is only 2 years old and I still have 170 GB available. Through researching forums and trial and error, I think it was a Quark glitch more than a hard drive one (at least I am hoping). Apparently I overloaded the color palette (since other files were fine I deduced that it was this particular file with the problem and not my computer). After creating a new layout and appending the original file to it (which eliminated the colors in the palette not in use) I was able to solve my problem and save my 80 page magazine. Whew! Thanks again! Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by BDAqua, BDAqua Sep 21, 2012 12:06 PM in response to MLEGraphics Level 10 (123,830 points) Sep 21, 2012 12:06 PM in response to MLEGraph

I've been working on a large catalog, http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=302744 and have gotten the error several times. When the error happens, the file gets corrupted, you cannot save it under another name because the structure gets damaged, and eventually, quark shuts down. RE: I/O Errors 2 Mrtechno (TechnicalUser) 3 Dec 02 20:34 I would suggest that you try the thumbnail drag in this case. Create another document with the same dimensions and view both the documents in the Thumbnail view side by side and drag the 1st documents pages into the 2nd document. To select all the pages of the document select the first page and then press shift on your keyboard and then select the last page of the document and then drag them into the new document and save it.**** RE: I/O Errors Experts (TechnicalUser) 4 Dec 02 15:41 dear lovejoy, the most likely cause of io error is a damaged document or bad hard disk sectors.try the solution given by mrtechno or also try to save the document to some other location.Auto save option is very helpful in such kind of situations.
