CAUSE Such a behavior may occur due to either of the two possible reasons, or both: Profile settings. An LDAP Administrator profile you have created for the server has settings which are responsible for the request timeout and the search result size limit. Those restrictions are sent

to the server with each request and if the size limit is less than the number of subentries in a certain entry, the application won't be able to get all of them. LDAP Server settings. An LDAP server can be configured to return a certain number of entries that is not greater than the one defined. This can be done by modifying the server configuration files or the source code prior to compilation. In most cases such a configuration is made in order to optimize server load and prevent hacker attacks. WORKAROUND VLV or Simple Paging. So now my code looks like this: SearchControls controls = new SearchControls(); controls.setCountLimit(1); ContextMapper mapper = new ContextMapper() { public Object http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16734521/spring-ldap-error-code-4-sizelimit-exceeded-when-setting-countlimit-to-1 mapFromContext(Object ctx) { DirContextAdapter adapter = (DirContextAdapter) ctx; Attributes attrs = adapter.getAttributes(); try { return attrs.get("cn").get(); } catch (NamingException e) { e.printStackTrace(); return null; } } }; return ldapTemplate.search("OU=system,DC=de", "(objectclass=person)", controls, mapper); But still, the same error is thrown. So, it seems that the count limit parameter is ignored (I can't find the reference to getCountLimit() in Eclipse after loading dependency sources). So my question is, how should I set the size limit for LDAP query using Spring-LDAP? java ldap spring-ldap share|improve this question edited Sep 17 '15 at 16:41 RageAgainstTheMachine 1,59711024 asked May 24 '13 at 12:04 Danubian Sailor 14.2k1993164 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote The size-limit to which you refer is the "client-requested" size-limit. No matter what the client sets the value to, it cannot override the server's size-limit resource restrictions. Professional-quality servers can limit the number of entries returned in many ways, perhaps your client has run into one of the limits. see also LDAP: Search Best Best Practices share|improve this answer answered May 24 '13 at 12:26 Terry Gardner 8,30721425 1 I'm sure there's a limit on LDAP server, but how to limit query size using Spring-LDAP and/or the query syntax of LDAP in
