For the failed SSO transactions an examination of ldap error code 4 sizelimit exceeded remaining name your server.log reveals the error message "LDAP: error code 4 - Sizelimit Exceeded". Why is this happening and how can I fix it?Solution: The error "LDAP: error code 4 ldap error code 4 - sizelimit exceeded java - Sizelimit Exceeded" is an indication that too many search results are being returned by the search filter using an LDAP Data Store. This refers to the number of LDAP objects found in the search and does have anything to do with the existence of multi-valued attributes for a single object. For example, if a search finds one user, and

that user is a memberOf attribute for multiple Groups or has multiple values of the "email" attribute, that will not generate this error and it will be handled cleanly by PingFederate. Essentially the LDAP interface is relaying a limitation set on the LDAP server. Some LDAP implementations have both a global setting and a per-account setting available to limit the size of the response sent back from the server. The directory server imposes a limit on: the number of objects to return from a search the amount of time spent on a search the number of entries to examine when creating the candidates list In addition an LDAP client can set explicit limits for any of the above when it initiates a search. Without reference to any Profile set up for the bind account, PingFederate is asking for exactly one result in most cases (the exception is the SaaS Provisioner.) Therefore if the combination of SearchBase and SearchFilter has more than one match this error will display. You should look at the search filter to confirm that it i

Performing a test search in the Directory Connector Configuration tab fails with similar error. Cause Cause for Symptom 1. SunONE doesn't support data paging https://ping.force.com/Support/PingIdentityArticle?id=kA340000000GsD6CAK Cause for Symptom 2. This is a known bug which is fixed in Crowd 2.0.3. The fix works for Connector Directories only. The Delegated Directories may present the problem but it would not impact the normal directory functioning. Resolution Resolution for Cause 1. Set LDAP property search-size-limit to a higher value. The value (the default being https://confluence.atlassian.com/crowdkb/ldap-search-fails-with-error-error-code-4-sizelimit-exceeded-181538625.html 2000) depends on the maximum number of elements (users, groups and roles) your Crowd server will have to fetch at once from the LDAP server. Resolution for Cause 2. The bug is fixed in Crowd 2.0.3, if you are affected by this issue please upgrade to the latest Crowd version. What if these don't work? Please have a look over this KBUnable to Log In with Confluence 3.5 or Later Due to 'LDAP error code 4 - Sizelimit Exceeded'which involves turning off paged results. Was this helpful? You need to refine your search so that it asks for less results. –Petesh Oct 24 '13 at 9:30 But it returned some results.seems like a problem at client side –Ahmad Oct 24 '13 at 9:42 Verify your assumption that is the case by examining the actual traffic returned from the server e.g. by using wireshark on the client system –Petesh Oct 24 '13 at 10:09 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted From RFC4511: A size limit that restricts the maximum

The result in the search response indicates that a partial number of results were returned to the client. The client can (and should) impose a size limit and a time limit as part of a search request, but these limits, known as client-requested limits, cannot override the server limits. Applications must not assume that the contents of a directory server can be trawled or retrieved, not only does such an action manifest security risks, it deleterious to the performance of the directory and adversely impacts other clients on the directory. A properly configured directory server will not allow listing of all the contents of all the base DNs it hosts. My blog entry has some discussion about search request and search response. share|improve this answer edited Feb 18 '12 at 0:14 answered Ju
