linker errors, undefined reference 11Contributors 12Replies 25Views 11 YearsDiscussion Span 3 Years Ago Last Post by Musa_Jutt 0 11 Years Ago You may want to investigate makefiles. Then you can use your favorite editor and still write modular code the correct way. I just had a glance https://www.daniweb.com/programming/software-development/threads/19591/dev-c-linker-errors-undefined-reference at how to write makefiles. Looks messy(will look into that later). So opened Dev C++ instead, http://www.bloodshed.net/dev/faq.html and tried to work with projects for the first time in DevC++( used visual C++ projects bfor though). The program compiles without error but i get errors while linking, saying undefined reference to xyz. Obviously the linker is not finding the definitions of the declared functions. I did include the .cpp files containing the definitions in my project, but still getting the linker error same errors. What should i do? Post a reply to the thread that this question is concerning rather than starting a new one so that we have a clue what you're talking about. ;) 0 Dave linker error in Sinkula 2,398 11 Years Ago I can't see your computer, but it sounds like you have a missing source file in your project list. You may need to add the file containing the definition the linker needs. I just had a glance at how to write makefiles. Looks messy Yeah, makefiles are their own special little hell. But if you get up there on the learning curve they can be useful far beyond just working with code. 0 Discussion Starter Asif_NSU 25 11 Years Ago Trust me Dave, i did attach each and everyfile file required for the project. Like if I used Linked list i added both linkedlist.cpp and linkedlist.h to the project. Still the linker reports undefined reference to linkedlist methods. 0 1o0oBhP 4 11 Years Ago Where is the original thread. I might be able to have a look... 0 Discussion Starter Asif_NSU 25 11 Years Ago Where is the original thread. I might be able to have a look... The original thread deals with smthg totally different :) 0 vegaseat 1,720 11 Years Ago Dev-C++ creates a new makefile every time it compiles. Messing with the old one is futile, it gets overwritten. 0 Looben 9 Years Ago Trust me Dave, i did attach each and everyfile file required for the project. function? What about a Linux version? After linking, i get an error like C:\DEV-C++\LIB\\libmingw32.a(main.o)(.text+0x8e): undefined reference to `WinMain@16' How can i provide a .def file for my DLL ? I am having strange problems under Windows XP How do i enable Debugging mode ? When I launch Dev-C++ i get the message saying 'WININET.DLL' or 'MSCVRT.DLL' not found The size of the executable generated is huged, why ? How to use assembly with Dev-C++ ? I am using Windows 98 and I cannot compile Why can't I use conio.h functions like clrsrc()? Because conio.h is not part of the C standard. It is a Borland extension, and works only with Borland compilers (and perhaps some other commercial compilers). Dev-C++ uses GCC, the GNU Compiler Collection, as it's compiler. GCC is originally a UNIX compiler, and aims for portability and standards-compliance. If really can't live without them, you can use Borland functions this way: Include conio.h to your source, and add C:\Dev-C++\Lib\conio.o to "Linker Options" in Project Options (where C:\Dev-C++ is where you installed Dev-C++). Please note that conio support is far from perfect. I only wrote it very quickly. How do I emulate the MS-DOS pause function? There are two ways. You can do it this way: #include
int main()
{
printf ("Press ENTER to continue.\n");
getchar (); // wait for input
return 0;
} Or this way: #include
int main()
{
system ("pause"); // execute M$-DOS' pause command
return 0;
}
