I get the errors when logged on as a “user”. No problem with “root”. Warning: connect() failed: : Connection refused The following installation problem was detected while trying to start KDE: Writing to the temp directory (/tmp) failed with the error 'Permission denied' KDE is unable to start. ---------------------------------------------------------- All the file permissions appear to be correct. It appears that /tmp may be the problem but I can not find any permissions that are set wrong and what log file would it be having a problem with. The -p option should keep the original file permissions. I have been using
christos for pinpointing the cause.
