What is it? by markawinter / April 23, 2006 3:06 PM PDT My ASUS P4p800-se MB has four memory slots. I purchased a gig of Kingston HyperX(2x512) for the blue slots. I received a gig of Crucial Ballistic ram for Xmas for the other two slots.(2X512). The computer seems to run fine most of the time except for a few little annoyances sometimes. Lately I have noticed that it takes for ever for my machine to POST.( I'm talking around 90 sec. or more just to count the ram)! At first I thought it was hung on the A

to load it in PowerPivot.I was looking for differences between normalizing dimensions in different PowerPivot tables or denormalizing them in a single table (joining all dimensions I want in https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/memory-allocation-error-what-is-it-171545/ a single query).Well, everything worked well using a large dimension with 254K rows. But, at a certain point, trying to understand a particular behavior, I included a column that is an identity key of the fact table (I know, Kimball's theory don't require it, but we often use it for maintenance purposes). And, in this mode, boom, as soon as https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/302f8243-c522-42d5-9b01-84c214b5230c/memory-error-allocation-failure?forum=sqlkjpowerpivotforexcel all the rows are imported, the PowerPivot generate this error:Memory error: Allocation failure : Not enough storage is available to process this command. .The operation has been cancelled. Thus, my understanding is that the cardinality of attributes is very important for memory usage while importing data.Just before throwing this error, the Excel process was using 650Mb of Commit Size (read on task manager) and there was plenty of free RAM (more than 1Gb). At this point, my understanding is that the cardinality of attributes you are importing (especially in the fact table, when you have millions of rows) is very important in determining the size of the file and (more important) the memory required to process data.Is there someone that can explain better what's happening, so that I can understand how to anticipate possible memory problems - and in general how to optimize data for a PowerPivot model?MarcoMarco Russo Thursday, December 24, 2009 4:45 PM Reply | Quote Answers 1 Sign in to vote Deva,I know x64 bit Excel will solve the issue, but I know ther

Join Now This is the error message one of my users is getting from her Excel PowerPivot add-in. "Memory error: Allocation failure: Not enough storage is available to process this command. If using 32-but version of the product, consider upgrading to the 64-bit version or increasing the amount of memory" Excel spreadsheet has links to PowerPoint. Understand Excel 2013 32-bit version has a limitation of 2 GB virtual address space. Is there a workaround/solution to this other than upgrading to 64-bit version of Office 2013? Switching to MS Office 64bit supposedly resolves this issue, but many add ins and other apps that connect with MS Office will not work on 64bit. Troubleshooting: Already swapped out her workstation to rule out a hardware issue. Applied Desktop heap fix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126962) and rebooted computer. I have never heard of a workaround when it comes to the memory limit, since it is an issue with address spacing inherent in the programming.Upgrading to 64-bit would be the correct answer to the memory issue, sounds like you are in between a rock and a hard place
