It has 4 memory models, 2gb each (8gb in total). When all 4 dimm are install the machine complains there is a multibit error on dimm 4. If I memory error shuffle the dimms around so that they are in a different order, it still complains about dimm 4. If I remove two of the dimm and run on half memory the error goes away. Also while only using 2 of the dimm, and have install them in different combinations to try and pin point the problem dimm, not no matter which dimms are install, while only running with 2 correctable memory error dimm the error does not occur. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be here? Many Thanks James Like 0 Reply You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. Even if the error is 4 years old, if it is in the Hardware Log, it will cause the diagnostics to fail. Check then Clear your Hardware Logs in OMSA before doing anything, then re-run the diagnostics. All Replies Posted by Todd Pietzsch on 30 Jun 2011 14:33 With this issue, it seems you have isolated the problem to the system board slot on DIMM 4. Since you have tried different DIMMs in that slot and the error persists, the indication would be a slot problem. Only suggestion I could make would be to clear the NVRAM and see if the error persists, if not it would require a replacement system board to correct the DIMM

When rebooting my Dell Poweredge 2850 it holds on post with an error that says multi-bit ecc error Interrupt at 1000:B4E* and the press and key to continue. When I boot into the os and go to the Openmanage Server administrator it is referencing the memory as an issue. I am not sure what all of this means. Does this mean that I need to replace all these memroy modules? I hope not. Thanks. 0 Question by:cmptrdr Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 32 Active today Best Solution byPowerEdgeTech You would have to get two 4GB chips ... you must install memory in pairs, so you cannot mix sizes within those pairs. Also, if you decide to get 4GB DIMM's for slots 2A and 2B, you cannot use slots Go to Solution 9 Comments LVL 9 Overall: Level 9 Server Hardware 1 Message Expert Comment by:AriMc2011-02-18 First thing to try with memory errors is to remove them, clean the contact surfaces and then place them back (keeping in mind the electrostatic precautions). Do this one DIMM at a time to the seemingly faulty ones so you don't change their pl
