I'm using Office Enterprise 2007 and experience a serious problem. Without having changed http://superuser.com/questions/306901/office-2007-destroyed-uninstall-impossible-error-1635-cant-open-patch-packag anything on my office installation I was suddenly unable to start any Office product. Earlier that morning I had already started Word which was running, but when I tried to start Excel it failed and so it did when trying to start Word, PowerPoint etc. Everytime I tried to start an Office application there was a Windows Installer message telling me "Preparing installation", but it never stopped. The message disappeared and re-appeared instantly for minutes without anything happening. I tried to repair it by using Software -> Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 -> Change. The setup starts and closes itself after 5 seconds. Then I tried to remove it. The deinstallation starts and closes itself after 10 seconds. I had a look at some error protocols of Windows and could see an error 1635 (unable to open package or something like that) so I Googled and found that there is a Microsoft fix for uninstalling Office suites. So I downloaded the FixIt tool from Microsoft (MicrosoftFixit50154); tried to run it, same result. It's preparing the removal, the Office setup is starting and in t

Many thanks to create a new question here! The error might be occurred due to registry key problem. u can rectify this error: Click Start > Run > regedit and press enter key, and try to locate the below: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Installer\Products\DFAD2CEE8555CA04E8C905508C8F018E From keyboard, press Delete key and click Yes to confirm deletion. Now quit Regedit. Remember, the last key i.e. DFAD…. may change! So carefully do this. (Source from Microsoft) CAUTION: It is good practice to take registry backup and other necessary data backup before doing anything with Registry key. You may get support from an expert for that purpose. If you are not able to do the above, go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. Click to select the Office system product from the application list, and then click Remove. Now again fresh reinstall the same product. Don't worry, it just removes the Office SW not the user files. Most probably you are trying to install File called "FileFormatConverts.exe". If I am right, you may go for other way to convert. If you are getting to read .docx files from Word 2003, u can go for online conversion here or convert or you may also try this. For bulk conversion visit here.
