application crash or lock up your system? The worst culpritsseem to be Outlook and Access for me. At my workplace we are running Office 2003 and when a crash or problem occurs it means wasting https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2654846 time hunting down the problem, doing arepair installation, or doing a complete uninstall/reinstall of the office suite. Windows Office 2007 has a new feature (which replaces detect and repair)which allows you to diagnose and repair problems when they occur in your daily tasks. The diagnostic utility will check the Windows system event log, hard drive, memory, application compatibility, updated service packs, and Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) if your http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/microsoft-office/detect-and-repair-applications-in-microsoft-office-2007/ hard drive supports it. I know it sounds like a lot, but let me show you how easy this is to run. Start \ Programs \ Microsoft Office \ Microsoft Office Tools \ Microsoft Office Diagnostics The Microsoft Office Diagnostics splash screen will open. Click Continue. Next you are presented with the Start Diagnostics Screen showing you what is going to be checked and the status of each diagnostic. When you are ready click Run Diagnostics. While the Diagnostics run you will see the status bars as each tests completes. When it's complete hit Continue. You will get a limited detail of what was fixed. In this example all 5 diagnostic tests ran and one problem was identified and fixed. If you ok with that just close out and you are done. If you want to get additional information click on "Detailed results". When you look close at the detailed information in this example you can see there was a problem with the installation and this tool automatically fixed it. Unfortunately for an administrator or power user this utility "as is" does not display specific results (you need to do more digging). However when you are in a hurry and need your applications up and running to finish yo

Microsoft Office Diagnostics will check your computer for microsoft word a variety of problems, including disk errors, updates, and incompatibility issues. If your computer is crashing or simply sluggish, it's probably time to run Microsoft Office Diagnostics. Microsoft Office Diagnostics is a series of diagnostic tests microsoft word 2007 that can help determine what is wrong and guide you in repair. To begin the diagnostics process, connect to the Internet and, if possible, close all other programs. Be sure you have the Microsoft Office installation disk on hand — or ensure you have access to the network share that contains the Office installation — as the program may need it to repair certain problems. To start the Microsoft Office Diagnostics program, follow these steps: Click the Office button. Click the Word Options button. Click Resources. Click the Diagnose button. Click Continue, and then click Run Diagnostics. The diagnostics tests include checks for disk errors logged by the Windows systems event log or by the disk itself (if it is equipped with the Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Report Technology, or SMART, feature). Office also checks your laptop for desktop RAM and installations of incompatible versions of Outlook. The SetUp Diagnostics is the longest portion of the test, taking 15 minutes or more. It checks for corrupted files and registry settings in the Office 2007 system installation, and then it repairs some problems directly and gives recommendations on how to solve others. (The SetUp Diagnostics is similar to the Detect and Repair feature in previous versions of Word.) If Automatic Update is on, Microsoft Office Diagnostics will also check whether your computer is u

Reason: If Microsoft Word was running when your computer was restarted after a Microsoft Auto-update, this error can occasionally present itself the next time you start Word. For more information see the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541. The error message indicates a problem with the Microsoft Word Ribbon. Below are instructions for resetting it. Solution: Use the following instructions to "reset" the Word Ribbon. Exit all Office programs. Click Start Type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. Locate the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\xx.0\Word\Data (Where "xx" corresponds to your version of Office) Click Data, and then click Export on the File menu. Name the file Wddata.reg, and then save the file to the desktop. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes. Exit Registry Editor. Restart Word. If Word starts and works correctly, you have resolved the problem. The problem was a damaged Word Data registry key. You may have to change several settings to restore your favorite options in Word. You can now delete the exported key saved on the Desktop from item 7 above. Copyright © 1996-2016 Design Science. Al
