I just installed Microsoft Office 2003 Professional on my Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 computer. I uninstalled Microsoft Office XP Professional before I installed Office 2003. Installation went fine. I then downloaded Office 2003 SP3 manually from the Microsoft website. Installation got https://www.windowsbbs.com/threads/installation-of-office-2003-service-pack-3-fails.75741/ about half way through before I got an error message that said "Error 2717 and internal error has occurred. Contact your system administrator for assistance." I clicked Ok and I got a dialog box that said the update cannot be applied. Once I closed that dialog box setup quit. I have tried 2 times. Once putting the Office CD in the drive and once without it. Both times I get that error. There is just no excuse for this update to fail on a brand new install of office. How can there be corrupt files on a new install? I was able to install 2 other updates for Office without a problem. Should I try to install SP3 in Safe Mode? Also after the installation of office finshed I had setup delete the installation files from my harrdrive. The installation files were located in C:/MSOcache. Should I try having setup copy those files to my harddrive again and then seeing of SP3 will install? Thanks for the assisstance. Microsoft Office Update Web site or the Microsoft Download Center, you receive an error message. Additionally, you cannot install the Office 2003 service pack. When you try to install an Office http://www.onlinecomputertips.com/office/sp_error.html 2003 service pack from the Microsoft Office Update Web site, you receive the following error message: Installation Unsuccessful When you try to install an Office 2003 service pack from the Microsoft Download Center, you receive the http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/solved-office-updates-failing-to-install-error-0x80070643-104177.html following error message: The update cannot be applied. This issue may occur because the Microsoft Windows Registry is corrupted and a registry key that provides the path of the original installation source for the Microsoft Office office 2003 2003 program is missing. Or, some third-party programs that modify the Microsoft Windows Registry removed the registry keys that are required by the Office 2003 Setup program. To resolve this issue, you must identify the product code globally unique identifiers (GUID) for your Office 2003 products. Then, you must re-create the path of the original installation source in the registry. Step 1: Identify the product code GUID for your Office 2003 office 2003 service product When you install Office 2003 or any one of the stand-alone Office 2003 programs, a product code (or GUID) is created in the following section of the Microsoft Windows registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall The format that each GUID uses is: {WXYYZZZZ-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9} The first eight digits of the GUID contain information about the release type, the edition type, the store-keeping unit (SKU), and the language of the product. The remaining digits in the GUID (6000-11D3-8CFE-0050048383C9) do not provide any information that can be easily categorized. The following table describes each of the first eight characters of the GUID. Characters Definition Hexadecimal Values W Release type 0-9, A-F X Edition type 0-2 YY SKU of the product 10-35 ZZZZ Language identifier of the product any required You can view the GUIDs for programs that are installed on your computer. To do so, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, typeregedit, and then click OK. 3. Locate the following subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall The GUIDs should be the first items that are listed under Uninstall, because their names start with braces. Each GUIDs data pane contains multiple values, including the product name that appears in the Add/Remove Programs dialog box (DisplayName), the date that the product was installed (InstallDate), the prod
