I took home the install CD and get a "Fatal Error During http://www.techtalkz.com/microsoft-office/124705-office-2003-fatal-error.html Installation" when auto-launching SETUPPROSP1.EXE. If I try to launch the regular setup, it prompts me for a Product Key, which I obviously don't have (because it's a Volume License Key maybe?). I had this previously installed on XP on the same computer just fine, but much later tried to add Frontpage and got the same error. I gave up since I knew I'd be upgrading to Vista soon. This is https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/office-2003-fatal-error-during-installation.166352/ my media center PC, so I assume I installed something in Vista that I also had in XP that screwed it up... like SQL Server 2005 (for MyMovies plugin) or .net framework or something. When searching for an answer, I came across references to LISTool.exe and network shares, but I'm obviously not deploying this over a network and have no idea to use this stuff. Thanks in advance. the installation disk is on that drive. I get the fatal error when installing or trying to reinstall or repair. So now what should I do? There is no error message when the installation http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Office/microsoft.public.office.misc/2006-03/msg00535.html fails. -- Russone "Beth Melton" wrote: The exact error messages and what you were doing when the error occured is very helpful. :-) I thought there was a KB article on this issue but I can't seem to find it. But here's the solution to this error previously provided by Sloan Crayton: =================================== This a Local Install Source error in Setup. Have you previously installed any Office 2003 products? One cause of office 2003 this error is the removal of the 'path' registry key for products that use the Local Install Source feature. I have a KB article in the pipeline covering this error when installing SP1. I've pasted the information from the article below that may help you resolve this error. This failure is caused by corruption in the Windows registry. A registry key that provides the path to the original installation source for the office 2003 fatal Microsoft Office 2003 product is missing. Some third party products that modify the Windows Registry will remove these registry keys. Resolution/Workaround: To correct the problem, it will be necessary to edit the registry information in the following registry location ...
