I just installed Microsoft Office 2003 Professional on my Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 computer. I uninstalled Microsoft Office XP Professional before I installed Office 2003. Installation went fine. I then downloaded Office 2003 SP3 manually from the Microsoft website. Installation got about half way through before I got an error message that said "Error 2717 and internal error has occurred. Contact your system administrator for assistance." I clicked Ok and I got a dialog box that said the update cannot be applied. Once I closed that dialog box setup quit. I have tried 2 times. Once putting the Office CD in the drive and once without it. Both times I get that error. There is just no excuse for this update to fail on a brand new install of office. How can there be corrupt files on a new install? I was able to install 2 other updates for Office without a problem. Should I try to install SP3 in Sa

Solved Microsoft Office 2003 SP3 error - The update cannot be applied Posted on 2008-06-06 MS Office 1 Verified Solution 4 Comments 3,839 Views Last Modified: 2010-05-18 I have a number of PCs that I need to install Office 2003 SP3 on. I've discovered that all but a couple so far some up with an error saying only that "The update cannot be applied". I've tried uninstalling Office completely, but get the following error: "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it." I've searched and found a few possible fixes, but most point to the following MS KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/884298 It seems to describe the problem very precisely, but it's not solving anything. Specifically, the value of the CD-ROM drive was already in the registry in the proper key described in the article. I deleted the key and recreated it anyway, but nothing has helped. How can I install SP3? It's a prerequisite for MSCRM 4.0 client and I need to get that installed asap! Then try and install again from scratch from that CD. I had a problem similar to this a while back where it was looking for a specific release of Office to make any changes. Other CDs for other apps work fine, but when I put in the Office Basi
