Windows Update Error Code 52F, Office 2003 I'm a stickler for installing updates and I was being plagued by two failed updates:Office 2003 Service Pack 3Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter KB936677With the rather cryptic:Installation status: FailedError details: Code 52FVista's intelligent help system didn't seem to offer any insights. I was really at a loss, when I started vaguely recalled reading somewhere that when you install software for the first time, temporary files are installed to the largest harddrive. Now on my system I originally had two hard drives when I was doing the first Vista install. This was because I was migrating literally http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=12836 gigs of family photos and videos to the new PC. So how to change this, as the old harddrive was now back in the original PC and I didn't want to pull it out again. The answer came courtesy of the Microsoft Office 2003 Local Installation Source Tool or LISTool.exe.A quick download, a few simple clicks... and all was fixed. So here's the solution!Error Code 52F FixTested: Windows Vista Home PremiumThanks to: Office 2003 Resource http://vistabugfixes.blogspot.com/2007/09/windows-update-error-code-52f-office.html KitOriginal Source: Microsoft Office Support1. Download LISTool from the official Microsoft site or here's a link to the file itself.2. Open LISTool.exe. You will be asked to type a location to save the files. I personally prefer c:\temp but you can pick your own location. Just as long as you can find it again! Click OK.The files will extract.3. Find the directory where you extracted the files. You should see 2 files. LISTOOL.CHM and LISTOOL.EXE. 4. Close ANY open office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).5. Double click LISTOOL.EXEIf you're asked for Permission by User Account Control, click OK.4. Select Move the LIS to a different drive.5. Accept the Microsoft License Terms (your first born child will happily go with the nice man from Microsoft!)6. Follow the prompts to select your new drive. I can't really advise you except to say you shouldn't go wrong if you target a C: drive. Most likely (as was my case) it will say the existing files are on d:\ or if you're in a corporate environment, on a network drive. Unless your desperately out of space on your C: drive then this is the best home for the files (if you don't have space then any other drive on your system should suffice.7. Click OK. Close the window.8. Try installing the updates again. They should all work!
