My Grandmother bought a Lexmark 3400 series printer/scanner. It has a single color head. She felt it is time for a new printer cartridge, but wasn't sure if the one she bought was the right one or not. It takes a Lexmark Number 1 cartridge. When the printer is not in use, she unplugs it. I opened the top cover to get to the http://support.lexmark.com/index?userlocale=EN_UK&locale=EN&page=content&segment=SUPPORT&productCode=LEXMARK_X3480DSG&id=SO2602 cartridge. Then I realized the printer was unplugged. I plugged it in, and the cartridge centered. I took it out and compared it to the new package. But she still wasn't sure if cartridge she bought really went in the machine. So I put the old cartridge back into the machine and closed it. The Printer says Cover is open. I opened it back up, removed the cartridge and put it back in. Closed it up and it still says cover is open. Also http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/lexmark-printer-problem-it-says-cover-is-open it won't allow me to turn it off. The manual says nothing about this in trouble shooting. I unplugged the printer, and plugged it back in. It insists that the cover is open! Does anyone have any ideas on what to try next? In my old HP 3744 deskjet printer, the cover actually presses a small switch, which then tells the PC that the cover is closed. Check if any such switch exists in your printer, try pressing it manually, the actuating mechanism could be broken. Just a thought... Without giving the OS or the printer model it is difficult to troubleshoot, however my experience of printers in general, is that when they don't want to play fair, just uninstall the printer software and then reinstall. This should clear the problem. If you are pretty sure the old cartridge is a duff one then reinsert the new one before doing this. If you don't have the original install disk, go to the lexmark site. Instead she uses it as a stand alone copy machine. The error message is displayed on the printer's display.

A friend of mine has a Lexmark all in one, model http://www.ifmdb.com/SSk4BF09-lexmark-3400-printer-problem.html X1150. Just recently it appears to have developed a fault, when she tries to print anything it brings up an error message saying 'Printer Cover Open'. The printer cover is fully closed so I can't see why the error is brought up every time, does anyone have any ideas? Locate where the printer door activates the switch on the printer and try depressing the switch with a finger or pen or pencil to see if that turns off the message next time she prints. Logically that should be the only reason she would get that message - the switch isn't being depressed enough. I used to have a Lexmark and I knew where that switch was, but I don't know where it is on the X1150. Sometimes I like to lift the cover and see if my work is printing properly. Of course you can only do that if you depress the door switch with your finger or pencil. On my Canon i860 it's an easily accessible (white) switch that I can just hold down with a finger. On my newer iP5000 it's somewhat more hidden, requiring the use of a pencil. -Taliesyn Diane 13 April 2005 19:37:38 Archived from groups: comp.periphs.printers (More info?) Thanks Taliesyn I will have another look at it next time I call round to see her. Diane "Taliesyn"
noise. Like, that sliding clicking noise that printers do. Its not a problem, sometimes amusing, when i have friends over and it randomly starts going off and everyone is like "***. " Just wondering what could be causing it and if anyone else has experienced this. View Full Post With 2 Replies Related Forum Messages: Please Follow Index to Quick Jump to the Message.
