Suppose I have created a menu where by user is privileged system.form_status in oracle forms to open few forms. Now take the case that there are two master forms say form A commit_form(no_validate) and form B. What the user does is that he opens form A enters some data. He has yet to enter some of the mandatory fields
Form_success In Oracle Forms
but all of a sudden he realizes that he has forgot to enter something in form B. He opens form B without closing the form A containing some data. Now he enters the data in form B and saves it. At this time
Oracle Forms Commit_form
forms_commit is invoked and since form A is also open with incomplete entries, it prompts some error message(s). Though form B is saved but still we see error messages due to form A. Is there any way by which we can ensure that only the current form is made to save ? Thanks a lot in advance. Regards Bhavesh and we said... Depends on how you open the form. If you use CALL_FORM, they share a session. If, on the other hand, you use OPEN_FORM -- you commit_form not working can specify that a new session is created for the new form. See OPEN_FORM. This way of commiting creates problems in concurrent access? Pls throw a light on this.. Followup July 02, 2002 - 12:52 pm UTC It commits in the database (the transaction is over) but Forms did not know about it. Hence, forms will think all data that was POSTED to the db is still posted but not yet committed. Also, all changed data that forms BELIEVES is locked will no longer be locked. It is a bad idea to use forms_ddl to commit like that. Use the forms methods so everything works nicely. what do you mean by "forms methods " July 03, 2002 - 12:14 am UTC Reviewer: A reader can you please elaborate... Commit_form does not commit [message #535955] Sun, 18 December 2011 02:17 bluetooth420 Messages: 120Registered: November 2011 Senior Member Hi I am calling a child form from a parent form. Problem area: It works perfectly if the parent form is adding records and while entering records when i press the button to call the child form, the whole things work perfectly according to plan. The problem begins when i run execute query command in the parent form and then call child form then it does not "commit_form". So this is my problem that https://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:509146277753 child form does not work perfectly when parent form is being called in execute_query procedure. My working: 1) I read in the documentation that When parent form status is query_only then child will also have the same mode regardless of the parameter given in call_form So i checked the :SYSTEM.FORM_STATUS of both the parents and child form,it shows "CHANGED" hence this point http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/177371/ is covered. (dont know how come the parent form is in changed status but at least it is doing my work) 2) I further read and found that Commit_form procedure make the :SYSTEM.FORM_STATUS as QUERY. Here i am facing problem as in child form when i make changes and press commit form. Then before commit_form and after commit_form the :SYSTEM.FORM_STATUS results in "CHANGED". You can see this in the following code which i have written in save button. message(:SYSTEM.CURRENT_FORM || ' a ' ||:SYSTEM.FORM_STATUS); pause; commit_form; message(:SYSTEM.CURRENT_FORM || ' b ' ||:SYSTEM.FORM_STATUS); pause; IF Form_Success THEN Commit; IF :System.Form_Status <> 'QUERY' THEN Message('Error prevented Commit'); RAISE Form_Trigger_Failure; END IF; else message('FAIL'); END IF; exit_form; then at last exit_form module shows that" i have unsaved data in the form" save Yes-No-Cancel? Kindly guide me how to track this problem. If you don't commit the update, no other user will be able to see the changes until the form is committed, so I don't see the need to update the database beforehand. In any case, if you want to do it, theoretically (I have never tested it) the POST built-in procedure should allow you to do that. Look for it in the Form Builder help.
