Using redshift 1.10 on OpenBSD, I https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/2b267t/cant_hibernatesuspend_from_xfce/ cannot use the geoclue2 provider. It fails with: $ redshift Trying location provider geoclue2'...
Using providergeoclue2'. Unable to start GeoClue client: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: Access denied. Unable to connect to GeoClue. Unable to get location from provider. All other apps using geoclue2 work fine (e.g. gnome-maps). Is there an obvious configuration tweak that I missed? Thanks. 👍 1 jonls https://github.com/jonls/redshift/issues/158 added the bug label Jan 10, 2015 Owner jonls commented Jan 12, 2015 None that I know of. Please report back if you figure out what the cause is. ajacoutot commented Jan 12, 2015 No cause sorry. But it's fully reproducible on Arch Linux as well. joelmarty commented Jan 13, 2015 I can reproduce it in archlinux as well spikebike commented Jan 13, 2015 On 01/13/2015 02:20 PM, Joël Marty wrote: I can reproduce it in archlinux as well --- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: #158 (comment) Ubuntu-14.04 as well. monkeydump commented Jan 18, 2015 Anyone worked out a solution for this yet? I too am running arch & have this error. zbyna commented Jan 22, 2015 Mint 17.1 kde the same issue : Failed to run Redshift Trying location provider `geoclue2'... Unable to connect to GeoClue. Add gnome-clocks to allowed applications Summary: Add gnome-clocks to allowed applications Status: RESOLVED NOTABUG Alias: None Product: GeoClue Classification: Unclassified Component: General (show other bugs) Version: unspecified Hardware: Other All Importance: medium normal Assignee: Geoclue Bugs QA Contact: Geoclue Bugs URL: Whiteboard: Keywords: Depends on: Blocks: Reported: 2014-10-19 13:21 UTC by Paolo Borelli Modified: 2014-11-15 16:06 UTC (History) CC List: 0 users See Also: i915 platform: i915 features: Attachments Add an attachment (proposed patch, testcase, etc.) Note You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug. Description Paolo Borelli 2014-10-19 13:21:29 UTC gnome-clocks is not allowed to use the geoclue service anymore. It gets: ** (gnome-clocks:6646): CRITICAL **: file src/geocoding.c: line 1733: unexpected error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: Geolocation disabled for UID 1000 (g-dbus-error-quark, 9) As far as I can see, it needs to be added to geoclue.conf where there are already firefox, epiphany, etc. While at it you may also want to add gnome-maps. In general it seems to me that having a section for each allowed app in that file is not a very good strategy. It would be better if there was a dir where an app could drop in a conf file to request access, so that the file could be shipped with each app Comment 1 Zeeshan Ali 2014-10-19 13:31:50 UTC (In reply to Paolo Borelli from comment #0) > gnome-clocks is not allowed to use the geoclue service anymore. > > It gets: > > ** (gnome-clocks:6646): CRITICAL **: file src/geocoding.c: line 1733: > unexpected error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: > Geolocation disabled for UID 1000 (g-dbus-error-quark, 9) The error message suggests that geolocation is disabled by agent (shell) all together. Check from control-panel if everything is ok, assuming geolocation is enabled in the shell menu. > As far as I can see, it needs to be added to geoclue.conf where there are > already firefox, epiphany, etc. No, that is wrong. Those apps are there as pre-authorized apps for which user wont be asked about when we have a mechanism to ask user about whether or not to give app access to location information. > While at it you may also want to add gnome-maps. No, that is also not needed. > > In general it seems to me that having a section for each allowed app in that > file is not a very good strategy. I would agree if you hadn't misunderstood what the list is about. :) Comment 2 Paolo Bor
