I went to the display settings. The screen was listed there (correct resolution, brand name, etc.). But when i put the switch on the name org.cinnamon.settingsdaemon was not provided by any .service files 'on' and click 'apply', i get this error: Failed to apply configuration: %s GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: No such interface `org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XRANDR_2' on object at path /org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/XRANDR It's been like this for a few months now, but i'd really like to be able to use an external screen/beamer again. Any ideas? Thanks. dbus share|improve this question edited Dec 8 '13 at 11:41 Braiam 39.2k1693154 asked Aug 10 '12 at 9:48 Maurice 136125 1 Try using the arandr tool, worked for me. sudo apt-get install arandr It's just a simple graphical frontend for xrandr. It's easy to use and self-explanatory. –Sasha Shepherd Feb 18 '13 at 9:08 I had the same issue: Tried the dconf
route, but it crashed unexpectedly. Took Sasha Shepards advice with ARandR and it worked great. If you are otherwise stymied, it is worth giving xrandr a try. The documentation is here: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wik

When I connected the laptop back on my DELL monitor, still no problem. So try that before complicating things in the terminal like i did at first. share|improve this answer answered Oct 28 '13 at 19:14 Stian Philip 11 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Disable graphics card drivers, restart, try if it works. After booting on a live usb and managed to do exactly what I want with the displays, I concluded that something must be going on with the drivers of my graphics card. So I disabled them via System Settings>Additional Drivers, rebooted and everything worked as I wanted to. Hope it helps you too. share|improve this answer answered Dec 1 '13 at 15:52 george 1 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service.
